Heya!!, wow, Im a british male student nurse, and firstly,
hi!
secondly do all nurse in the US, austraila, everywhere infact wear scrubs? I dont, I wish I did, "surgical blues" (scrubs) are so comfortable, just like pyjamas! :)
Oh and what does LPN, RN stand for? (I gather, nursing positions)
We have Registered Nurse (RN)thats a normal nurse nurse,
Enrolled nurses (EN) Very rare now, kinda a NA/RN hybrid in the 70's and Health care Assisstants / Nursing Auxileries / Nursing assisstants (HCA/NA)
Thanx!!
re: Colonies. Rude?
I don't find it rude in the slightest. I think its rather quaint. Of all the nations, I believe British culture has had the largest influence here than any other. I have had the priviledge of visiting london, and (blackpool? is that right?), had some distant relatives there. I was there for a little less than a week, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I know that my school offers a student travel program to visit London, and I'd love the chance to head back over there again.

but....back to the uniforms for a moment.......can you please describe what you mean by "tunic"?
You have no idea how many Mediasites I had to wade through to get this!!!!!
Oh god yes!! :chuckle today I went down to theatre (OR) to watch and lap' choly' (laparscopic cholysystecomy (Arrgggh!!, big words ) so yey, got to wear srubs!
Im normaly an XL (6'3" dont you know, and very broard across the chest)
all they had was an XXL top that showed off my entire chest (sucks to have a hairy chest at 20) and L trousers a size too small, all in all I looked like a really bad dutch Media star:roll

All that bean-eating not stunted your growth then?
Are there any really good Dutch Media stars????????
Also are there any nurses out there who have worked in the UK and another country? It would be really interesting to have your input.
I worked as a HCA / camp councilour in the US for 6 months, working with severe physical and learning disabilities
(mostly wheelchairs)
(mostly non electric wheelchairs)
(lost 45 pounds in those 6 months )
that was cool... the big thing I noticed is that student nurses are employes, not students. and thats kinda cool, kinda wierd. (they were doing the community collage course mention before in this thread)
Also met my first nursey role model, she was soooo cool!, she seemed to be in complete control of everything, never lost her cool, totaly informed, but so much fun.. like sociopaths!
God, I cant wait to be a nurse....
well British student, if your training where I think I you are, you have my sympathies............but your training is in a lot of ways better than mine! we worked 40hr wks on the ward while training- and worked the hours sister told us to! I worked nights one christmas and new year cos thats what students did! this job is poorly paid, everywhere it would seem. BUT you will get a qualification that will enable you to travel and work around the world. so stick with it- and we lived on kentucky fried chicken when I was a student- had to save most of our money for beer!!
I am a nurse practitioner- its taken more years of study to get here than I care to count. I get paid H grade and it makes me cross to think that new graduates in other professions earn more than me. somehow dont think Beverly Malone will change that! but its a great job............oh and I wish you'd learn to spell!! be glad I am not one of your teachers!!!
