Onward to Texas!

Published

The hubby and I have decided to move to Texas in June. Reasons being that as beautiful as California is, do I really want to pay $600k for a 3 bedroom home when I can get a mansion in Texas for the same price? Plus the Bay Area traffic and increasing prices from the Tech Crowd is changing the whole dynamic of the area and I just want out! Hubby is also a Republican and Texas is like Mecca for him

I love my job and the only reason I'm skipping town is for our future and all that jazz, blah, blah, blah. We are looking to move to Amarillo because I have a friend who works at a great hospital there and I think I could get a position there with no acute care. I want to take a refresher class and I'm already talked to a recruiter so I think my prospects are good. However, I love school nursing and I would like to know if anyone could give me some insight on school nursing either in the Panhandle or in Texas in general. I know either way it will be a major pay cut for me, but the drop in the cost of living will be worth it (currently we are renting a 2 bedroom/2 bath townhouse for $2150/month!).

Someone give me advice, hope, or talk me out of going back to the small town, desert life :chicken:

Oh yea!!!!!

I wouldn't move to Amarillo, but if you have friends there then that is a different story. Many people work in the big 'city' but live in a small town outside of the city. One person I know lived in a WAYYY off town, 2 hours away and drove to her job. It is common in the outskirts of Houston I know, and probably the other big cities as well.

2 hour commute? I might as well stay put

I meant I was blue, now I'm confused.:bag:

I know your blue, that's OK, diversity is what we sorely need. I am red, like my shirts on Wednesday.

This Bromance is profound, sorta.

You and OD, I mean.

I didn't find the South West friendly. Just sayin'. I like the South East better for southern charm.

Whoo, I thought you were including Texas. But we stand alone between the Southwest and Southeast. We're just South. Smack dab in the middle.

And down.

Dallas girl myself, never owned a monogrammed shirt or rode a horse. Hung out at the malls we have in the area growing up. Have friends that live in Amarillo and shopping is just not as good in them parts. And, they get all of the yucky weather too in the panhandle.

I would look at San Antonio Area. It is growing like crazy, but still has a smaller city feel (depending area of course). It has the beautiful Hill Country, Family Activities throughout the city, River Walk, and Great food. Home of Tex-Mex. Tacos on every corner if you like Mexican food. The Culture down here is awesome and the weather is nice. I do not like snow, so the Pan Handle is too cold for me. San Antonio is also Booming in the Medical Field. There are new Hospitals and urgent care centers going up all the time. Not that they need them. We have like 20 some hospitals. Just my $ .02. Good luck on the move and welcome to Texas (if that is the path you decide to take.)
