Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2017)

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hey everyone :)

So fall just flew in so I thought what a great time it would be to start my nursing applications lol. It is very early, but I enjoy having this on my mind. I am in my final year at University and am hoping to be a nursing student come next September. I wanted to make a space where we could come together with a common goal: getting accepted. The schools I plan to apply are:

Trent, Toronto, Humber, Western and Queens

Possibly considering RPN programs as well.

Congrats on your acceptances!

Hi! I just got off the Western waitlist yesterday - my last 10.0 course average was around 83%

Just got waitlisted for u of t. They said I'm in the first group. Does anyone know how many people are in that group ?

For UWO, how did you calculate your average? Did you take the last 10.0 credits, add them, and then just divide them?

Hey guys did anyone get accepte to UofT with an 83 average in final 10 courses (5 FCEs)? If so, what kind of experience did you have? I'm applying for next year and really want to get in (did my undergrad at UofT) but kinda worried... thanks! I do fall under everything UofT lists as their "ideal candidate".

Hi Pianoplaya94,

My average was lower than yours and I got in.

I got my degree in biochemistry at Waterloo which may have helped. I've volunteered at a helpline for 2 years now. When I was in school I was a part of the Women's Centre and a Run Club Leader. Through co-op experience I had done research, 8 months of which were at SickKids.

Outside of that I've done a couple marathons and triathlons, I placed in my age category for the triathlons.

I also used 4 references, although I don't know if that had an effect or not. I used two PIs, a prof and a volunteer supervisor.

Good luck next year!

Pianoplaya94,

I got into U of T this year and I had around an 83-84% average in my last ten courses and I have not completed my degree yet. I really didn't have any research experience other than being a participant in a study that looked athletic performance and dietary habits. In my application I discussed that I was a captain of a varsity team and received a couple of scholarships based on leadership qualities so I really emphasized how my communication/teamwork/time management skills have improved throughout the last four years. I volunteered for a lot of sport-related functions and I had four reference letters (two work related, one professor, and the head of the bio-med department at my school).

Anyone who got accepted to western having trouble accessing the Facebook page for the class that was provided to us? I keep going to it and clicking join community but it says I have to have a Western email. Is anyone else having the same problem ?

Hi,

First, you go to the Western page and click on "Join group". Search for "groupsatwestern" on FB.

Then go to the CTF page and click on "Join community" which will ask you for your email.

Thank you! I am actually in a VERY similar situation to yours! I also did lots of research (plan on using 2 PIs as references). 2 of the projects were at Health Canada and 3 of them were at SickKids (for about 18 months) :)
