Ontario Second-Entry Nursing

Published

Hi Everyone!

This is super early to talk about applying to nursing school for 2016, but it's always better to be well-prepared! Let's share some thoughts and help each other out!

I am re-applying to nursing schools as I did not get in last year, and planning to enroll to more courses for pre-reqs and to increase my GPA (I graduated with a B.A.)hopefully this year will be much better and with luck!!!!

I have a few universities in mind to apply -

  1. University of Toronto
  2. York
  3. Nipissing
  4. Western
  5. Queen's
  6. McMaster

Should I apply to more? Which one should I apply? I am super eager to enter the program and I failed once, failing twice is not allowed!

Feel Free to give me suggestions or ask questions! Here is a link I found online listing most of the second entry nursing programs.

Best wishes to everyone! Good Luck!

-Bon :)

Yes, I am on the Western waitlist since May 30th. I am not sure how they work their waitlist? I am still keeping my fingers crossed but had to pay a $500 non refundable fee at another place just to hold that spot incase I don't get an offer. Any idea how many people move off the waitlist into spots at Western?

From previous threads, the trend was that people were getting off of the waitlist for western around the third week of June (next week).... Hopefully we hear back soon!

I was on the waitlist last year, people started hearing back in June and I was accepted off it in July. However, last year they increased the spaces in the program from 64 to 96 after the waitlist was created so 32 people got off of it. This was a bit of a different situation so I wouldn't necessarily rely on that information or the posts from last years thread.

oh okay! Thank you for clearing that up!!

when I spoke with an academic advisor way back she had indicated they had over 90 seats at Western. So thanks for the information. I am hopeful yet.

I look forward to welcoming you in September.

I have been checking my mailbox everyday since Monday but haven't received my package yet. I will update this thread when I do. For those wondering, I did my undergrad degree (BSc) and had a 70% average in my last year (last 10 courses). Of those 10 courses, two of them were marks of 51% and 53%. I'm grateful to have gotten this acceptance and wish best of luck to anyone still waiting!

Hey! I had to do a helpdesk ticket through synergy in order to get my synergy login! I believe you need to have your York passport login and email already created to do that.

Just checked this morning and they have some appointments for the CPP!

Congratulations! I thought that uoft required at least a 75% in the last 10 courses though. If you don't mind me asking, do you have a lot of extracurricular or volunteer/work experience?

Hi! I just got accepted to the nipissing scholar practitioner program but I'm still waiting on uoft. Is anyone else considering the SPP?

for reference my cumulative average was 81% and my last 10 courses was 3.5. I did a double major so I have a BSc in biology and a BSc in psychology. I have a lot of volunteering experience; hospital work, research at a mental health hospital, helpline volunteer, group facilitator for patients with mental illness, peer mentoring, and volunteering with indigenous people in Peru. I also published a research paper in social science and medicine.

I thought I was competitive but I haven't heard from uoft yet :( the deposit for nipissing is due June 30th so I have to decide soon!
