Hi Everyone!
This is super early to talk about applying to nursing school for 2016, but it's always better to be well-prepared! Let's share some thoughts and help each other out!
I am re-applying to nursing schools as I did not get in last year, and planning to enroll to more courses for pre-reqs and to increase my GPA (I graduated with a B.A.)hopefully this year will be much better and with luck!!!!
I have a few universities in mind to apply -
Should I apply to more? Which one should I apply? I am super eager to enter the program and I failed once, failing twice is not allowed!
Feel Free to give me suggestions or ask questions! Here is a link I found online listing most of the second entry nursing programs.
Best wishes to everyone! Good Luck!
-Bon :)
I need help guys...I applied to York (got rejected very early because my prerequisite marks were not all B+) I also applied to Trent and I'm anxiously waiting as other people already receive their admissions--I have a 3.7 in my last two years after taking a 5th year and a cgpa of 3.0 Right now I am contemplating applying to nippising's scholar practiser program but I am hesitant...on their website it says you need a 70% overall calculated over 10 best full credits, how do they chose which are your best 10?-and The prerequisites need to be successfully completed....what does successful mean? Passing grade? I ask this specifically because my anatomy grade is not that great although I passed the course. Also I read on their site that your references and essay are only looked at if you meet the academic requirements, so I just want to make sure I am actually eligible before I ask my supervisors for references. Right now the scholar program is my first choice because I need to stay in Toronto (I pay rent here and have a part time job here that I must maintain)...if anyone has applied to nippissing or is in the program I would really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I've applied to Trent and based on what you say and based on what I know it seems like to will get into Trent. I know that some people have already got accepted into Trent but it really may be depended on when they applied.
With regard to the Nippissing program, I really don't know but I am actually quite interested to get more details about that program. I thought it was already too late to apply to school, do you think Nippissing still accept applications?
I've looked into their requirements and it looks like I am missing a general psychology course, do you happen to still consider me if I am able to start the course soon?
With regard to the way they select your best courses, I am assuming they will just choose your courses that have the best grade. As far as I know a full course is 6 credits, 10 full courses will be equivalent to about half of the courses that you took during your degree, so they will probably commit half of the courses that you got a lower grade on.
I'm not really sure what they mean by successful completion, perhaps they just don't have a specific passing grade that you need to meet, so passing may be the only criteria.
Another thing that you may consider if you want to stay in Toronto is Humber college, they have a second entry program and they are still accepting students. When I last spoke to Humber they said that right now they are sending acceptance letters to students with a GPA of 3.5 or above (below that students may be put on the waiting list).
Thanks for your response, it puts me at ease (all these application are so crazy) :) .with regards to nippissing, the deadline to apply is April 1, 2016 (according to their site) and I'm pretty sure you can get a conditional acceptance as long as you provide proof that you are enrolled in the course.for Humber, I was a bit hesitant to apply because I plan to continue with a masters, but I think most MN programs want a degree from a recognized university..but I will still STRONGLy consider Humber because I really need to stay in Toronto. thanks again for letting me know!

Thanks a lot! I will look into Nippissing and might apply there as well. And thanks for letting me know about Humber, I am planing to take MN as well and I didn't know that Humber's degree does not qualify me an entry into an MN program.

The nursing degree you get once you graduate from Humber is from UNB and not from Humber, so I think you would still be able to go on to do your masters.
hi miniimufin, i only applied to york so i was wondering when you got your rejection. did they actually write the reason on your myfile? as for nipissing, the school takes your best 10 FCE (20 best courses out of all of your uni years) and the average has to be 70% or over. as long as you have met the requirements, they will look at your essay and reference letter :)
hi butter413, they rejected me very early on (i applied very early in November)..they send me an official letter and everything (in December i believe) and gave me a very specific reason for the rejection...my prereqs did not meet the academic requirement. It was partially my fault because i already knew i only had a 60% in anatomy and they require at least a B. I think york got really popular with applications and have upped their standard (with the CASPER and everything). needless to say, on my ouac..it still does not say "rejected".
@miniimufin, oh i see. sorry to hear that but don't lose hope. there are definitely still options available like nipissing. i actually tried out for all of the nursing schools last year but unfortunately, none of them accepted me. i only received an alternate offer from trent last year for a BSc which i already have -_- even though i wasn't able to get nipissing, i still thought the whole process was fair. they view your essay, reference letter and will schedule an interview to meet with you in person so you can actually get a chance to express yourself and talk.

Humber has a collaboration with the University of New Brunswick so all BN students (whether it is second-entry, generic 4 year program or RPN bridging program) will get a degree from UNB. You can definitely apply for Masters programs with this degree.
