Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone!

I haven't seen a post for Fall 2021 yet so here it is!

My choices are:

1. UofT

2. McMaster

3. Nipissing SPP

I started my OUAC application in November and now trying to work on the supplemental packages. My CASPer Test is on January 12, 2021.

I need to take Anatomy and Physio course(s) however, I'm having a hard time figuring out what would satisfy the requirements from all three universities. My options so far are:

1. Take CBLG 101 in Winter and CBLG 111 in Spring at Ryerson. However final grade will be in June; hoping that's fine.  This satisfies all 3 unis

2. Take SCS 2159 in Winter from UofT which is enough for UofT and McMaster but not for Nipissing. I have to take an Anatomy course just for Nip.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from back home, been working as an RECE in Toronto the last 8 years, have a Diploma in Nonprofit Management at Ryerson. My cGPA is 3.55 which I'm worried about. Lots of extra curricular activities from university and volunteering here in Toronto.  I still have to compute the GPA for the last two years.

I requested WES to send my transcripts to Nip and McMaster and asked my old uni to send to UofT.

It's been an expensive application so far; really hoping I get in! Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our experiences.

For anyone choosing McMaster or strongly considering, how do you feel about the placements? I know some of the community placements were online last year and that makes me nervous. I know they also don’t cover all ages/population groups with their placements either - are there ways you are thinking about getting yourself that experience? (Ie externships)

thanks so much, having a really tough time with decisions right now

I'm in the McMaster accelerated program right now so I can explain to you. For community, it's kinda crap right now. For one half of the course you do some online bs where you're given a community and you have to look up information about it. Not fun at all and imo, is an utter waste of time. Then for the other half, we are administering Covid vaccines. I had my first day administering vaccines today and it was an awesome experience!

And yes, you're right in that for the first 3 semesters we have no choice in our placements. I unfortunately got placed in a placement that I did not want so now I have to endure it for the next few weeks before we get our new placement. For the Summer, you get either pediatrics, maternity, or mental health for one half and then for the other half you get a med-surg placement. Completely random where you end up. In the 4th and 5th semester you get to choose what unit you want.

Thanks for all the information, that was super helpful! Do placements start right away or in January and when you had your first placement, did you feel prepared going into it? Also, are placement locations mainly in Hamilton or could we be placed in the GTA, Burlington, Oakville, etc.? ?

So I applied to UNB (Moncton), Western, McMaster and Dalhousie. I got accepted at UNB and Western. I still haven't heard from McMaster and waitlisted at Dalhousie.

Western was my top pick; however, because of COVID, and how the restrictions at NB are strict, it would be hard to come home during the break; therefore, I've decided to pick UNB to stay close to home! (also save money). I would love to go study in Ontario sometime later for a masters in the future!

Congratulations on getting both offers! I am waiting on a response from Western (UWO is close to home for me ?). My application average is 84% and I saw others have received rejections with GPAs close to 3.8, which has got me a bit worried. If you are comfortable saying so, what was your application average for Western (last 10.0 credits)?

Woke up to a McMaster acceptance!

Congratulations!! If you don’t mind, what was your GPA and how did you feel about CASPer?

My GPA was just under a 3.8 (approx 3.73) and I felt extremely confident in my CASPER.

Are you an internal transfer?

Does Humber's second entry have a deadline? Just curious!

For this cycle? I know from the information session they had a few days ago that they’re “waitlisted” now. That means they’ve sent out offers and now it’s first come, first serve for whoever applies. I applied when it was still “open” in OCAS (but after the Feb. 1 deadline) but my transcripts and everything was only sent this week so I’m not sure if I’m part of the “waitlist” applicants.

I spoke to admissions yesterday. They have made all their offers so only if someone declines/fails to fulfil their condition will an offer become available and then they would offer it to the next eligible candidate. But there is already people waiting to hear back so don't know the likelihood your application would be considered. They also only look at marks so if your GPA isn't 80 percent or higher in the last 60 credits I wouldn't bother wasting your money. That's what they stated their cutoff was this year. All the best.

Awesome, thanks for the insight! I have received an offer from another school so I was just curious since Humber is a little closer to home ?
