Hello Everyone,
I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York
only next year (yes I am going through the strike).
Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.
Hi all!
I'm applying to Humber, McMaster and UofT. I have a Bachelor of Applied Science and a Master of Public Health. I work as a Registered Dietitian at a public health unit but hoping to make a career change. UofT is my first choice and Humber is my second - as I really want to stay in Toronto, although the Humber program is longer.
Since they only look at undergrad marks, my last year of courses is a low A- 3.7/4.33 scale. I have lots of research assistant experience, volunteer experience at various hospitals and hospices, as well as job experience in community engagement, health promotion, and evidence-based evaluation.
I thought the UofT supplementary app was tricky as I have a bunch of experience and ended up writing it more like resume style, rather than lots of paragraphs or else they would have been reading forever. Not sure if that was a mistake or not. I remember applying to Master's programs a while back and I got rejected from one due to an administrative error so I'm hypervigilant now!
I finished taking a gr12 math credit through ILC for Humber, and now I"m taking 2 Humanities credits online through Ryerson for the prereqs for UofT. Very tough doing those 2 courses and a full time job - but you do what you gotta do.
Good luck!

I also wrote my supplementary app like resume style so it's easier to read and more organized. Hoping our style was good. :)

Did you do resume style in the extracurricular portion or the supplementary question portion? Wouldn’t writing paragraphs in the question portion show that you can express your ideas eloquently? It’s a space that allows them to hear you speak right?

no, was that required? I thought they were going to use our final transcripts at the end of the year so at the time of admission review, they'd look at our other courses. are you referring to if you were taking some of the prereqs now?

are you talking about the compressed program or the 4 years one? have you tried emailing their admissions office?
