Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2019

World Canada CA Programs

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York

only next year (yes I am going through the strike).

Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

Hello!!

I've just applied to Queens and Western through OUAC. I'm in third year, and my average for my last 10 credits is 91.45%, but I do not have much experience with hospitals/research. I am on an exchange abroad and not sure how that will affect my chances! If anyone has any insight on this, please let me know!

Hello to be nurses!! I'm currently a nursing student at UofT. If you have any questions about how the program is like, I can surely help you out! Good luck on your applications :)

Hi coffeeboi how are you liking the program so far and how is the schedule? In addition, I was wondering if all your prereqs' grades were high?

Hey! The program is amazing! In terms of the people, everyone is so supportive and kind to each other. It becomes like a little family. (but i'm pretty sure every program will be like that). The workload would be different in everyone's opinion, but I'd say it's a lot but fair. The professors are incredibly supportive who are NOT out to get you!

We have class from Monday-Wednesday and then clinicals are either two 8-hour shifts for 5 weeks (thurs & fri) and then you rotate into one 12-hour shift (either thurs or fri) for the next 5 weeks of the semester. And this repeats for the next semester.

As for my prereqs, my grades were around low 80s to low 90s and my GPA for the last 2 years was 3.7 while my cGPA was 3.15!

Thanks for answering. Wow it sounds so fun! Were you are UofT undergrad? And did you take anatomy?

There are many places! Depending on the class you're doing, you will be placed in the hospital that has the unit. Here's where you can find the list of hospitals: Placement Partners - Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing

Hey everyone!!! I'm applying to York, Queens, and UofT! My gpa from the last 2 years is 3.6 and I have volunteered around in my community clinic for a while and I have some research experience during my undergrad. I'm currently finishing up my degree this June from York University with a BSc. Good luck every one!

Best of luck! What's your first choice?

Good luck everyone :)

Does anyone know when the schools will begin accepting applicants? Have any acceptances gone out yet?

They'll probably start in April / May.

Anyone have any info about Trent's prerequisites. They say you need High School U-level Biology, Chemestry, and Math, or the equivalent university courses. Would statistics, and anatomy and physiology count as university level prereqs. It's strange, there's not much guidance on what cognate courses would count.
