I'm applying to the second entry nursing program in February 2018 for Fall 2018 admission. I'm applying to York, Humber, Trent, Nipissing and potentially Western. I'll be applying with a BA in psych. This is probably super premature, but I wanted some reassurance from fellow applicants. I also wanted to know if anyone, past or previous applicants, know the weighting of Additional Information forms and how they're considered during the application process? I was diagnosed with ADHD during my second year of university, after being misdiagnosed two previous times, and it's certainly had an impact on my grades. My GPA is going to be something like 6.7 on a 9.0 scale. And this really has me worried. Has anyone else had any experiences with Add. Forms?
Good luck to all!
There actually are simulations in SPP! They may be different than UofT's but they have them. A past student told me they bring in actors and actresses to act as patients and this is one of the assessments for grades. I had not heard about this portion of the program until I spoke to someone who did it. Thought I'd let you know :) to be honest I also highly doubt UofT has about the same amount of clinical hours as SPP which is a total of over 1000 hours!
Oh really that is relief to hear, i knew they were different but i did not know the logistics :)
Hey! So I'm in the U of T program as a first year! There's a facebook page for the 2020 class! The page seems a little dead right now, because it was recently made. But definitely join to ask questions there! Log into Facebook | Facebook
Hey! Would you mind sharing your experience in the accelerated UofT nursing program so far? how are you liking it so far, how big/close are your classmates, how is the workload in terms of classes and clinicals etc. would love to hear how you feel about the program since you've been in it!
Exactly ... these are my struggles. Thanks for your comment! It's hard because SPP being self-taught is intimidating, but knowing how much theory and work is with U of T's courses is also intimidating in a different way. I am worried about knowing all I should with Nipissing's approach, but also worried about doing well and how hard it will be with U of T's. I wish we could know our placement already for Nipissing, maybe that would help my decision. I didn't know U of T was about as many clinical hours as Nip, that is useful! It is hard because U of T is the 3rd best nursing program globally so it's hard to dispute that, but also has a reputation for being U of Tears. This is a painful decision-making process lol.
What are the top two best nursing programs worldwide? (just curious, and I can't seem to find that info when I google it!)
I just got into U of T less than an hour ago! :) It's my top choice and I'll be accepting the offer.
I have a 4.0 GPA (~91-92%) in the last year and I think my cGPA is just below 3.7 (78.44%). I'm a 4th year Bio-Medical Science major and I'll be graduating this year.
For my extracurriculars I volunteered as a camp counsellor for the past two years with a pediatric oncology camp (~5 weeks spent there total for 8 separate camps). I volunteered ~20 hours with a student alcohol recovery room on campus for the past few months. I also briefly mentioned that I was a committed blood donor with 20+ donations and had done some personal projects such as making/sewing ornaments to mail to children with cancer. I had 4 references; 2 professors, the volunteer coordinator from the camp and the employer at my summer job (not health/science related).
I don't have any research experience, hospital volunteering or club involvement, so for everyone still waiting don't get discouraged as there's definitely still hope and plenty of time to hear back! :)
Honestly, I love it! There are only about 200 students each year. And we're like a family. Classes run Mon-Wed in first year, and then clinicals Thurs, Fri. The workload is decent. It's an accelerated program, so they do require a lot from you. But it's definitely worth it!
Because it's an accelerated program, do you guys have clinical/school through the summer (I.e. no summer break)?
U of T is actually number 1 in Canada and number 2 in the world! Trust me when I say the nursing program is different from undergrad (I did my undergrad at St. George), so I really don't think the U of Tears thing applies to this program! The faculty is really supportive and my cohort are all really helpful!

That's a relief! How are the theoretical classes evaluated? I saw a lot of papers and not a lot of midterms in the calendar posted on the bloomberg website. I read on another forum that the papers are hard and that students generally have a difficult time getting over 85?

Congratulations about your offer to UofT!! Also, good to know that you also didn't receive an e-mail from McMaster changing their deadline. Would you mind sharing your cGPA?
