Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2018

Published

I'm applying to the second entry nursing program in February 2018 for Fall 2018 admission. I'm applying to York, Humber, Trent, Nipissing and potentially Western. I'll be applying with a BA in psych. This is probably super premature, but I wanted some reassurance from fellow applicants. I also wanted to know if anyone, past or previous applicants, know the weighting of Additional Information forms and how they're considered during the application process? I was diagnosed with ADHD during my second year of university, after being misdiagnosed two previous times, and it's certainly had an impact on my grades. My GPA is going to be something like 6.7 on a 9.0 scale. And this really has me worried. Has anyone else had any experiences with Add. Forms?

Good luck to all!

Hi everyone, I got a conditional offer for McMaster today as well. I was surprised since I didn't think I did very well on the CASPer. I'm also in the process of completing my anatomy prerequisite. My GPA for the last two years is 3.8. I also applied to U of T and Western. U of T is my first choice since placement matches seem to be good, but I heard that it's difficult to get a job outside the GTA and I live in Ottawa. Has anyone heard of what placements are like at McMaster?

My friend is in the McMaster program and she loves her placements! She really enjoys the departments she's worked in so far.

Honestly my last two years currently isn't well.. on the 4.0 is 3.51 and 4.3 is 3.61. I currently have 90's in 3/5 classes and 85 and 87 in the other two so my final GPA will be alooooot better.. hopefully enough for UofT. I guess I just did super well on the casper.

My last three semesters currently were all above 4.0 on the 4.3 scale, but I had one super low semester (two C's) that won't count when the final grades come out. I also had some poor marks in 1st year and have a failed course, so if I can get in I'm sure you can too!

That's good to hear. How did she find the PBLs? I hear it's a lot of work with essays and assignments?

I'm graduating this year from a 4-year program so I'm worried about the switch in learning style- most of my courses were just 2 midterms + final.

Ok awesome thanks for sharing :) did they give you a date that you have to accept by? I'm assuming they sent out the first round of admissions today so I'm anxious to know when the next round will go out

Hi all! I've been stalking this thread for a while and figured I'd update on my situation. I'm in my fourth year of undergrad and received a conditional offer from Mac last week! I need to respond by the 13th and Mac is my first choice so I will be accepting. I can't wait to meet you all :)

My cGPA is actually not that high - about a 3.4, so I'm guessing I did really well on my CASPER. Just wanted to give anyone who doesn't have quite a high GPA some hope because if I can get it, so can you!

Hey congrats!! I also got a conditional offer from MAC today too, and my first choice is also UofT. I notice that they said we have till April 16 to accept. But what if we don't hear back from UofT by then? do you know if we can accept and decline later if we hear back or do we have to pay a non-refundable deposit?

I believe the deposit at Mac isn't due until June 1st (that's what it says on mosaic) so you shouldn't have an issue with that.

I also posted this on the Nipissing thread, but I also wanted to hear what you guys thought.

I have been accepted to both Nipissing and Queens and they have completely different teaching styles. I don't think I can go wrong with either one though. But I'm not sure what employers think (Im thinking Queens may have more name recognition and would be more familiar to me in terms of teaching style.)

Do you guys think employers know about and respect the SPP progroam over Queen's' AST program? How about Masters programs?

In a bit of a pickle over which to choose, and if I get accepted to U of T, I still dont know which would be the smart move to choose. In general, does anybody know the pros and cons of each second entry program in terms of employer awareness and easy of furthering education? I thought Id reach out to the community and see what you folks thought.

Oh thank you for your response! So helpful.. could you let me know where on mosaic it says that? Also, if i accept my offer would that affect a future potential offer from UofT or Western? Thanks again!!

Under the "Finances" tab, click the drop down menu and select "Charges Due" - it says June 1st for me as well. You still get accepted to other universities, but you have to decline the one you accepted before accepting a new offer.

Has anyone heard from U of T, York, or Western?

Hey for the Conditional offer for Mac, it isn't allowing me to view the requirements. If anyone got accepted do you mind describing what the conditional offer suggest? Thanx

1. Official final university transcript stating degree granted (maybe not applicable to everyone, but it's because I'm graduating this year)

2. Skills Abilities Letter to the School of Nursing before the summer deadline

3. Completion of all courses in progress with a final cumulative GPA of 70% and a minimum final

grade of C-/(60%) in the required courses. An official final transcript must be submitted
