I work with a PNP who has only worked with peds. So yes its possible to work only in peds and become a NP, especially if you want to be a PNP!
Good Luck!
PS And yes it is easier to handle some of the body fluids in peds. I used to work with in an adult ICU/PCU so I dealt with a lot of "big" people poop. I'd change a 3 month old's diaper any day compared to a 30 yr old. :chuckle
i am hoping to someday be a pediatric np...in the meantime, i am in the process of becoming an rn. one thing is...i am mainly only interested in pediatric nursing. i've always wanted to work with children and really, i feel child body fluids are much easier to handle. is it possible to only work in pediatrics and get into np school, too? just looking for some advice.
you are not the only nursing student who wants to do peds only. i am in ns and i have no intention whatsoever of working with anyone over 18! i think thats okay though; we know what we want sooner than other nursing students do... i am about to start working in a children's hospital as an er tech and i am so excited to get my feet wet and be in an area i want to be in. i am in adult med/surg in school right now and i don't ever see myself doing that everyday. i'm sure you feel the same. :) good luck getting to be a pnp, i think thats great.
I've only ever worked peds ... PICU, in fact. I started there as a new grad a whopping 15 months ago, and I haven't regretted it for a single day. If it's what you want to do, go for it. We're past the days where you have to work your "year of med-surg" before transferring to a specialty. I know for a fact that I would have quit long ago if I were forced to work with adults. I'm just not interested.
