Online Universities

I would like to know from other who have more knowledge than myself if RN to BSN programs completed at an online university are respected by employers? Just want to specify that I do not mean colleges that also offer online programs but universities that are entirely online?

I'm in a generic BSN program, my opinion is to get into an online program from a brick and mortar university or college, there are many options available. Advantages, if you got issues or questions you can actually go in and seek help plus I've seen RN's who are doing RN to BSN are able to come in to the lab to practice skills if they think they need it. Totally online schools, well you will never have that opportunity.

As long as the school is accredited it should be respected by employers.

I would suggest going to a school that you could drive to if any complications were to arise...I haven't had any and will graduate in November from my RN to BSN school but having a piece of mind eases my mind!

Yes. My boss's boss got her MSN from an online university. Employers generally don't care where you got it, just that you have it.

the HR people are getting wiser. YES. Online programs are great. You can learn anything online that you can in a traditional classroom and you have options to ask questions, do group projects, etc. My employer does not discern between the two types

Some schools are more highly respected than others. It depends on the school -- and an employer's experience with graduates of that program.

I got my BSN and MSN from Stonybrook and had no problems with jobs even though they were online programs. Now I'm doing the DNP at Loyola University New Orleans...online. Make sure the school is accredited.
