Online Pre Reqs?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I live in San Diego. I am trying to complete my nursing preqs but having a hard trying to get in to the classes. Is there a college where I can take all my prereqs online.

I have done all of mine through ccconline. It's a great education, but if you aren't in Colorado, then it's pricey. It's accredited and classes are not noted as being online on your transcripts. I would look to see if you have any community colleges that do online classes in CA first because of cost.

I was wondering did u live in colorado to get the classes? Or a different state

my advice would be to not do your pre req's online. in my experience i did much better in the classroom because you can be one on one with your classmates and teachers. also if you are going to take a&p 1 and 2 those are pretty challenging course and you will need to actually retain the info once you get into nursing school. i think if you are in a class and interacting with other students it helps to absorb more information that will raise your gpa and help you score higher on entrance exams! hope that is helpful. classroom all the way! lol

see if there is a county college near you that offers online courses...majority of them will

Definitely check with the nursing school you plan on attending first. They should be able to tell you some colleges that have online courses they accept. The school I go to offers online, hybrid, and on campus classes. They also have the nursing program I am going to. And they have a partnership with the local university so I know I will be able to go for my BSN & MSN. I think a lot of schools are offering online classes now because of convenience.

As far as this early registration thing, my school's registration is divided by 3. 1st priority is for people with 30 or more credits. 2nd is for people admitted into a degree program. And 3rd is for everyone. I'm in the 2nd and it's a struggle to get into classes, but I'm blessed to have a flexible schedule and I usually miss my night class when the registration opens up at 5pm online. Sad thing is, quite a bit of these people are just here to get the money and run. Once those refund checks are sent out, there is a dramatic drop in the school population.

As far as this early registration program because of whatever problems, I don't agree with that. I would qualify for it for low income, but I don't think that that is the right thing to do. We shouldn't help the poor and punish those who aren't. So were going to help the poor get a degree, then those who aren't won't have a degree and will end up being poor. That's not right. It's just like in my state, people on welfare can go to ANY college they want. So they go to this $20K per year nursing school. My nursing school is $5K per year. God forbid they have to wait a year to get into classes. Anyways, they get their $20K per year tuition paid in full, and they get all the grant money in the form of a check. So they get their welfare checks, and THOUSANDS in grant money. My friend went to this school(she took out a loan) and was telling me how they were all talking about all the crap they were going to buy with this grant money(luxury items.) Wasn't being used for education, that's for sure! Must be nice to be paid to go to school. I don't understand why they can't go to my school, which is $15K cheaper. What a waste of taxpayer money. :mad:Sorry, about that long rant. That just really gets me.

I'd be REAL CAREFUL if I were you.....a good deal of nursing school are hard as hell to get in to....and pre-reqs from an online school....I honestly think a good deal of nursing schools might not accept that as a transfer credit...

My advisor told me that most nursing schools don't want you take the A&P, chemistry, or Microbiology online for sure because they have lab components...

Actually, it depends on who you take the classes through. I live in NY, and have taken many of my classes online through my own school and through other state (SUNY) schools. Nowhere on my transcripts does it say the classes were online. I am taking A&P II "online" right now, and I have a lab I attend on-campus. Next month, I am going to start an online micro class- with lab- that is ENTIRELY online; I just need to have access to a microscope and then I will purchase the lab kit.

I was accepted for a nursing program at a state school in the fall, and I just recently decided to even go to nursing school. They accepted all my classes, and they have already told me they would accept my online micro. I think if I was taking my classes the U of Phoenix, which is pretty much all online, things might be different, but these are state schools, and honestly, my online classes are much more demanding than my in-class classes, because the profs know any exams (with the exception of my in-lab a&p tests) will be open book. They make everything else harder.

I think the key is to meet with someone from the nursing dept. of the school you want to get into and see what they will and won't accept before you waste time on something they won't, but you might be surprised about what they will accept.

I took my science classes online through Rio Salado and Darton College. Darton College is excellent and I highly recommend the classes there. I think I learned the info better than traditional classes because I had to teach the information to myself.

However,I have only found 2 colleges that will accept my online classes. All the community colleges that I applied to (I applied to 6) said they would not accept any of my science classes. Now I have spent $3000 and am so upset because I took the classes online. I could not get into any of the community college classes because they were so impacted so I thought online was the way to go. I was very wrong! :sniff: Don't make the same mistake.

I wish you the best of luck! Make sure you check with the school before you take the online classes. Please let me know if you find any nursing programs in Southern Cali that will accept online classes. The only ones I found were SDSU and Azusa Pacific.
