UNLV SON FALL 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello everyone! :)

Since the Summer 2018 cohort is about to be announced, I thought I would start the forum for Fall 2018. Who else is applying? I hope the cut off score isn't as high as it was last fall!

Bsnoptimist, if you take it after the semester ends, will that be enough time for UNLV to get the results before the signing/applying session? I was under the impression that it needed to be done before semester ends? I sincerely hope we can do it later. I'm doing my first attempt the end of spring break and really don't want to try to study during classes...

Lindsay71105 - I already signed up for a BSN signing session in June, so I am under the impression that as long as I get it done before then, I will be fine. You get the results automatically, though! After you take each section of the exam, you see the score you got and then you see the cumulative score at the end of the exam. You will then get a print out with your scores right after. So, there's no waiting for your results. I can check to make sure that it will be fine if we retake it that late, though. Better to be safe than sorry!

Btw, you're going to do great! :) Don't doubt yourself. You probably won't have to retake it again.

I had no idea you can already apply for a signing session! That is pretty exciting! And as long as you have your score sheet, they will take the points. Some people turn in their score sheets the day of the deadline! I just ask the woman at the testing department to print out the score sheet immediately after the exam and have them sign it, that way you wont have any problems when turning in your scores.

Wait, you can sign up for the signing session now? The advisors said I had to wait until May at the earliest to set up an appointment.....

Yes! I met with an advisor last week and he told me to ask the front desk to set up a signing session apppointment! I didn't know we could do it this early either until he told me, but it was on my list of questions lol

Thanks for letting us know. I actually just signed up for a signing session in June as well. I am too excited to wait!

Hello everyone!

I'm still undecided if I will be applying for Fall! I have yet to take my Hesi but I've calculated my points and I have to get at least a 97 on each section to apply with at least 94.29 points. A 97 on each section seems impossible! The Hesi legit scares me and I have no idea why. The material on the review guide seems pretty straightforward but I've never been the type to do amazing on these test which is whats probably freaking me out and not to mention that we only get two tries. I wanted to retake one of the bios but I feel like it wouldn't be worth the headache or really make a big difference since I got a B+ the first time. If any of you have some tips on studying for the Hesi (study schedule, study guides) or suggestions on increasing my points please share! I feel like at this point my best bet is to studying as much as I can to try and get a perfect score.

Heres a list of the grades I've received so far on the first attempt except for on Bio251:

Bio223:B+

Bio224:B+

Bio251:A-

Does anyone happen to know what the Summer cohort's cut off is? I have been following their thread on here and the lowest I have seen is a 92.88....but there is only a few active people on that thread.

Just hoping someone has some connections on here to give us an idea of summer scores. =)

Hey Esmiig!

I thought the HESI was scary too! It gave me so much anxiety! So feeling that way is totally normal. After all, it makes up a huge part of your points on getting accepted. My advice would be to take the HESI and see what you get, then decide if you want to retake one of those classes. I have a friend that got two B's, but she did amazing on the HESI. She just got accepted to the Summer cohort with about 95 points. So just study hard and take your HESI, but still have your back up of taking a class over just in case. I studied from the recommended book and the HESI pocket prep app! The HESI book lacks in the A&P section, so I would use outside sources for that part, like your lab manuals.

You're going to do great!:)

Hey Lindsay 71105! I totally called the SON yesterday and asked lol. They said they're not giving out the cut off score information anymore because it created too many problems for students. The guy that answered just told me that it was much lower than it was for the Fall, so the 92.88 sounds about right.

Oh my gosh, you are awesome. I was thinking about calling but chickened out.

I wonder what kind of problems they were having? I mean, we all know it's a highly competitive program, so I wouldn't think knowing cutoffs would make it any worse....

I don't know about all of you, but I am totally getting anxious and nervous. It's only a matter of months away before we all get to apply! And with how fast this semester has already been going, it will be here before we know it!!!

I heard they no longer release cut off scores because they don't want students to get discouraged about applying to the program, since the cut off's keep increasing. Even though we have our ways of figuring them out lol
