TWU Fall 2017 Nursing Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all,

I've decided to go ahead and start this thread for those who are in the process of applying for the HIGHLY COMPETITIVE nursing program at TWU (FALL 2017) Feel free to share your STATS, questions, and good vibes as we're all here to get accepted!

I'm personally interested in the Night/weekend program since I already have a bachelor's degree and I just finished my TWU application (since TWU requires you submit a "new student" application first, then the Nursing application) I am planning on submitting my nursing application right after I hear back..

I also have not yet taken my TEAS, but am in the process of studying for it to take in a couple weeks!

How's everyone else doing?

I wonder if I can still retake the TEAS even if I already submitted my application.

Hi, I am applying to TWU Houston, fall semester. I'm so nervous, my gpa is 3.43 and I got an 80% on my teas. My scores are not not bad, but I am not sure if they are competitive enough. The national score was 66% and I ranked in the 88 percentile. Best of luck!

Hi Everyone! I finally took my TEAS today, so now I can provide my stats.

TEAS: 90.7

Nursing Core GPA: 3.9

Previous Bachelors in Speech Path

Im applying to the Dallas program as I stated earlier, but now I'm having a hard time deciding which type of program to apply to- (traditional or evening/weekend) I want to work a part-time job while in school since I have things to pay for. Does anyone know if we are still eligible to receive financial aid if we plan on being in the evening program? (Since a couple of the semesters aren't quite "full time" 12hrs required by state to get aid)

which one one are you all preferring and why if you don't mind sharing?

Thanks everyone :)

If you can apply to both or call one of the advisors and discuss your options. I believe you are still eligible for aide as a part time student, the amount you receive will obviously be reduced.I am applying for the weekend program because I'm paying for the second BS degree out of pocket.I also have a 3 year old kid to take care of.

Is anyone waiting to get accepted into TWU via general admissions before they can apply to their nursing program?

I applied about a month ago and I got an answer back about acceptance about 4-5 days later. They're pretty fast about it!

Your thread has been moved to the Nursing Schools / Colleges forum where the other school specific discussions are. We hope you will receive additional responses in this new location.

Wow..you must be great at math. Math was my weakest score on the TEAS..any tips for somebody who isn't so great at math?

I would say definitely buy the ATI Guide if you can or go some where to study one, I myself didn't buy one but I would go to Barnes & Noble and study for about 2hrs/ day just answering questions from the different manuals they had (never bought one- ha!) The math itself isn't very difficult- know how to calculate percentage problems (for ex: 15 is what % 79? And If a person bought a $150 DVD player for $70, how much was his discount in percent?) I feel like half of my exam was over percentages....

definitely read about about how to solve absolute equations and the different types of graphs/when to use them. Best of luck!

There were a lot of fraction conversions and some fractions used in algebra problems. I would definitely recommend that you study those. There were also some geometry questions regarding perimeter and area. You'll need to know the formulas for squares/rectangles as well as circles and triangles. As StethoscopesMarilyn mentioned, there are quite a few questions on percentages too.

To brush up on these you can watch youtube videos that will walk you through the types of problems you'll. Then you can find a way to practice them. This is really the only way to get better and more proficient at math. Check out Keshwani Prep on youtube. He goes through each section for math on the Teas VI.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
