Just wanted to start this thread to see if anyone else has applied to the 12 month accelerated nursing program at stony brook!

@jenna25 I submitted mine almost a month ago and with all three recommendation letters. It seems like October is the month when they start sending out notices.

I'm not sure if you were asking me specifically, but my overall GPA was a 3.6, and I had a 4.0 in the prereqs. I also didn't have any clinical experience.

Do you know anyone who applied with a low 3.0 gpa and still got in? My gpa is a 3.0 and I submitted my application 2 weeks ago. The gpa requirement is a 2.8 for the program. I am very nervous.

Hi all! I am about to submit my application, just finalizing my personal statement! I have my 3 letters of rec submitted, however, a professor just got back to me offering to submit a fourth letter on my behalf.. Does anybody know if 3 letters is the max or minimum?

3 letters of recommendation is the minimum. When I applied, I submitted four (certainly doesn't hurt, right?).

I don't know many other students' GPAs in my cohort, but I wouldn't count you out with a 3.0. It helps if you did well with the prereq classes. Make sure to have great rec letters, and a stellar personal statement. SBU definitely seems to take a more holistic approach in their admissions process compared to other schools.

Thank you for your help! One more question, what would you say makes a stellar personal statement?

I've had mine read my numerous people and got majority good feedback, but I'm still nervous it wont be what their looking for. (I discuss alot about a personal experience and how it motivated me to choose nursing).

I'd say just really stick to the point, remove any extraneous details or fluff. What makes you stand out of the pack? Why will you be an asset to the school? Let them hear your voice, not just "I like helping people" sort of thing. Also if you had any weaknesses (let's say a lower GPA) I'd give a quick explanation as to why.

Thankyou for all your help! I know its based on the applicant pool butI'm curious to know if you think I have a chance at being accepted based on my stats. I have a cum. overall gpa of 3.53 and a pre-req gpa of 3.7 .. I submitted 4 letters of recc. (2 professors and 2 healthcare professionals I work with) And I work as a nurses aide in the hospital. I'm concerned because I recieved a B in A&P1
