Loyola Chicago ABSN Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi guys,

I recently just got accepted to Loyolas' Chicagos ABSN program. The on campus (not hybrid option). I saw a few threads about former cohorts for this program, but none for fall 2018. I was just wondering if anyone else has been accepted and what they think of the program. I'd be moving from New Jersey.

Has one visited the campus yet? Any other thoughts, etc

Hi Parknursing,

I just tried to send you a message. Not sure if it worked, but I am happy to answer your questions if I can. Feel free to write me, or post them.

Good Luck!!

Hello @ASBNewbie, I tried to sending you PM messages but it's not letting me reply back because I am new to the site. I wanted to ask you how do you like the hybrid program.

Do you feel like you are getting enough support from the faculty despite not being on the "on-site"? Also, if you could go back would you still choose the hybrid program over the on-site? How is the work overload at Loyola? Thank you so much!!!

Hi! I did you ever get a response from the person? If you could let me know I would appreciate it thanks!

Hi everyone, I am applying for the fall 2019 start date. I was wondering what people who were admitted GPA's were. It is literally my life long goal to become a nurse and I feel so much anxiety about applying and not getting in. I was hoping to kind of "feel out" the pool of those who were accepted to compare myself to. (A little background, I will graduate from ISU in May of 2019 so my overall GPA through ISU currently is a 3.38 and my overall with nursing courses and from other classes I've taken will be a 3.26. My science GPA will be a 3.33 because I haven't yet taken Physiology and my non-science GPA is a 3.58. I do also have a lot of service work on my application)

Thanks for the guidance.

@aweiss33 What kind of service work have you done so far? I got admitted into the 2018 program with a cumulative GPA at around 3.1 but my science GPA was above 3.6. I'm sure they take into account the grades you received for the pre-requisite courses the program requires you to take before.

Hi, thank you for responding. My service work includes volunteering in an ER throughout my entire high school career, taking notes for students with disabilities, i founded a walk in my home town to raise awareness for those affected by mental illness, volunteering at a local childrens museum (teaching art classes) and i am the caregiving chairman for relay for life on my current college campus.

What other program are you going with if you don't mind me asking

@awiess33

What do you mean by that question?

Oops sorry I posted on the wrong thread. If you don't mind me asking did you receive any grades lower than a C in your college career? I have received one C- in a science course that isnt a prerequisite

I am thinking about the Loyola ABSN program, starting in the Fall of 2019. The advisor I am working with is short on facts. I understand that it is a rolling admission and first-come-first served. What I asked the advisor is during the last five years, when has the Maywood (in-person cohort) filled up. September? November? January? March?

I don't know if I am going to get an answer from her so I am asking the community what their experience has been with getting in (or not getting in) to the Loyola ABSN program in Maywood. I need to know because if it has been before December, I am going to have to jam in an online science class and blast through it in the next few weeks.

I also posted this in a 2016 thread before I saw the 2018 thread.....sorry. Thanks

I can tell you my experience with applying to the 2018 Fall cohort. I applied in November 2017 and found out a few weeks later that I was accepted into the Fall 2018 cohort. By January 2018 the Loyola ABSN website was updated to say that they were no longer taking applications for the Fall 2018 cohort, so I would say that sometime in January 2018 the Fall 2018 cohort was filled. Of course every year can be different depending on how many applications they receive and when they receive it. I don't believe you have to jam through your science class because they can accept you into the program pending completion of the prerequisite science classes before the cohort starts and if they so choose.

Well she sprung another requirement on me recently that is not on their website......They will not consider my application "complete" and therefore will not hold a seat for me, if I have not completed a science course in the last seven years, even if I have all the prerequisites in progress. I must prove that I am able to pass a science class by having completed one in the last seven years. I will complete several qualifying prerequisites in December, but that is not good enough. Unfortunately my last qualifying science course was eight years ago.

The advisor suggested that I take a self-paced online course through Portage Learning. The simplest class I see there that will qualify is Chem 108 - 4 credit hours and $792. My planned 16 credit hours of prerequisites for this fall starts on 8/20, but I will not get a grade until December. The Loyola advisor is suggesting that I spend the money and knock out the Chemistry class in a few weeks, or the cohort may be filled up by the time I finish the prerequisites I had planned in December.

I asked her to look up the history for the last five years for when the cohort fills up but she replied basically saying "No."

The Fall 2018 face to face cohort filled up sometime in January 2018 and it seemed that those that did not make it into this Fall 2018 cohort either switched to the hybrid 2018 Fall cohort (which still had spots) or asked to be considered for the Spring cohort.

Good luck!
