Loyola Chicago ABSN Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi guys,

I recently just got accepted to Loyolas' Chicagos ABSN program. The on campus (not hybrid option). I saw a few threads about former cohorts for this program, but none for fall 2018. I was just wondering if anyone else has been accepted and what they think of the program. I'd be moving from New Jersey.

Has one visited the campus yet? Any other thoughts, etc

@rsawyer,

I took that chem class through portage and I finished it in about 8 weeks. Now, I have a lot of downtime at my job that allowed me to study. It wasn't an easier class but an option if you need to finish a course faster than a semester. Also, you don't have to buy a giant chemistry book!

Hello,

I have been admitted for fall 2019, I am curious what the tuition was for your first semester. The website lists tuition but also lists added fees. Thanks in advance

Hi @ABSN newbie ! I am not able to message you for some reason, but would love to pick your brain about Loyola's ABSN hybrid program. How many times a week did you meet in person at the facility? Where did you complete clinicals? Do you think having a car is necessary to get around or is the train a good option?

Hi! I have 8 weeks left!!!! 1st semester was 1 day per week for lab, but some weeks we had exams, so we would be going to campus an additional day. Second semester i had clinicals 2 days a week with an additional day for exam/quiz. This was almost every week it seemed like.... so 3x a week traveling. 3rd semester was atrocious. Clinicals 3x a week with exams .. sometimes 2 exams in one week ?. Brutal. Now i am 4th semester and clinicals 1 day a week. Exams generally 1 day a week some weeks. A huge relief! It flew by!!!! But yea... you will 100% need a car. And for 2nd and 3rd semester i advise working very little if not at all. But did it raising 3 kids,(with a ton of help) ...go for it!

Clinicals were all over. Locations for all included loyola medical center, Palos community, good samaritan, advocate condell, various psych hospitals.... literally all over the place. There are options to swap clinical locations with other students. I swapped to suit my needs.

@KatrinaAshley wow you are almost there! how exciting!! Do you feel like the program has prepared you well enough to take the NCLEX? Can you let me know some of the pros and cons regarding the program?

can anybody shed some light on their admission status and how they found out they got accepted? My application checklist changed to "admit checklist" yesterday. Today, I got a universal ID. Still have not received any email. Has this happened to anybody else? How long did it take to receive the email?

Hi everyone! I will be soon be applying for Loyola's Spring 2021 ABSN online hybrid program, and was wondering if anyone would be willing to share their experience now after having completed it? I'm curious what the overall experience was like, if you feel like it was a valuable program that will prepare you for a nursing career, what the schedule was like/how manageable it was, what the online experience was like for anyone who did it, and any general advice or observations you'd have for someone like me trying to decide if this is the way to go.

I live in Chicago and have a family, so the flexibility of the remote classes is appealing; I also have a car so travel shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you for any insights you're willing to share from your experience!!

Hi! I completed the program in December. Overall, I was happy with the program, and felt prepared for NCLEX and work as an RN. the online program does not provide the same level of support as the in person classes, but I also have a family and I worked throughout my program, so I really appreciated the remote courses. The clinical schedule is intense though, especially during the 3rd and 4th semesters. I think it is a good program for anyone who is very self-directed and motivated. You will have to be a good self-advocate and be very comfortable learning independently and speaking up for yourself if there is anything you need.

Feel free to PM me if you have more specific questions.

Good luck!

A very belated thank you for this reply! I really appreciate your taking the time to share your perspective and thoughts on the strengths and considerations involved in the program. Good to hear that you were happy with the program and felt prepared, and it's good to keep in mind the level of support for the online version and self-discipline I'll need to stay on top of things. I've been working while completing the prerequisites online along with having a family, so I feel like it's been good practice getting into that mindset over this last year. Best of luck to you starting out as an RN!
