Hey All! I am graduating May 2018 from nursing school at Belmont University. Before I apply and choose a residency program I wanted to get an inside scoop on the basics of them all.

Hospitals:

1-Vanderbilt

2- St Thomas West & Midtown

3- Centennial

4- HCA

5- Southern Hills

6- Nashville General

What are the deets......

What kind of commitment do they require after residency?

Length of the program

Pay for new grads?

GPA to get interview?

What is the culture like/ how well did the program run?

Staffing issues?

Just curious... why are you applying for a grad program? Does no one hire recently graduates nurses? I used to live in Nashville but I didn't go to nursing school until after I moved to Florida. It wouldn't surprise me though if none of the hospitals were hiring graduates.

From what I have heard, it is rare to be hired as a new nurse in Nashville.

Hey! So I'm a new nurse myself and I'm actually working in a tristar facility as a new RN right now. Vanderbilt and St. Thomas want new grads to do a nurse residency program. However most HCA will still hire a new grad nurse without the residency program. I was blessed enough to be hired straight on and bypass the residency program. If i was you, i would investigate beforehand because i have heard that all hospitals will require a residency program. The big downside imo is the contract that ties you down for 2 years. I saw it as a big drawback bc if you want to have a 2nd RN job or if you wanna move into a different hospital or facility, it'll be hard, and sometimes the hospital itself will make you pay for breaking the contract.

Greetings, J. Cruz, not sure you are on here often, but wanted to see how your first year at TriStar has gone? I will be doing practicum in a few days at one of their sites and hope to sit for RN boards in a few months. Would love to hear your feedback,
