Long story short, has anyone completed an online LPN->BSN prgram? If so, where, tution, quality of program, pre-reqs, etc. So far, I have searched and have found Indiana state university and Walden ( I think I prefer Indiana State University).

I have taking all of the pre-reqs at a local community college here in NC for a university transfer BSN program while enrolled as a pre-ADN student. My plan was to go from ADN -> Masters or BSN.

Now with a baby on the way and my husband makes too much, at this time, for financial aide, not having family near by to help with the infant, etc. I have decided that the LPN option would be better for this phase of my time. Having my LPN would pay off economically b/c I am tired of near minimum wage as a CNA. Plus, taking one class in three semesters works out well time wise with raising a family as opposed to the three plus classes in the ADN program, not to mention the tuition.

Please, honest and non biased opinions and experiences towards LPNs, or ADNs. We are ALL NURSES!

One more last question:

If I complete my LPN program and pass the NCPLEX, can I turn around and take the NCLEX on my own and pass to get my RN with out going through a BSN program?

No, while you do not have to complete a BSN program to gain eligibility to sit for the NCLEX-RN you MUST complete a nursing program in professional nursing whether it be a hospital based diploma program, associates degree in nursing program OR a BSN. If you complete an ADN program, pass the NCLEX-RN then later complete a BSN you do not resit the NCLEX-RN as you are already a licensed RN.

Moved to Online Nursing Program forum to elicit further response. There are only a few LPN to BSN programs in this country (online or traditional) Not all online programs are accepted in all states. For example there is a hold on ISU's LVN-BSN program in California at the present time. There are several LPN to ADN/RN programs traditional and online/distance/self-directed.

First ensure that the program would be acceptable to the board of nursing in the state where you wish to practice. Second, know whether or not you are confident enough in your skills and are self-disciplined enough to successfully complete a distance learning program. Distance/online programs are traditionally friendly to non-traditional students, in general as that is the target student population. Good luck.

Thanks JustBeachy for clearing that up as I have heard on here in some forums that some LPNs were able to pass the NCLEX for LPNs and then turn around and sit for the NCLEX to become RNs.

So far the last time I checked, NC state board of nursing accept some LPN to BSN program. ISU is one of them... I believe the skills will come once I get certified and start working as an LPN as I have some history as a CNA and phlemotomist, though I am currently reading LPN NCLEX and NCLEX for RNs prep material for the test to see what will be covered on both. Just wanted to know if other LPNs have "been there done that" so to speak.....!

Hey VidyaNC! I just spoke to a representative from The College Network, which works with Indiana State University and their LPN to BSN program. I have had my LPN for over a year now and don't think that I will be able to finish the ADN program I am currently in. I've only started looking and ISU was the first thing that popped up... Have you heard anything more regarding this program? I will be speaking with someone from the College Network next week so hopefully I get some good answers to the many, MANY questions I have!

Please do yourself a favor and review some of the many threads here about TCN before making a decision about signing a contract with them.

As stated above make sure Indiana State Univ. is approved by your state's BON. Do you know that you don't need the college network for the Indiana State program, right? As someone suggested please read threads about The College Network before you enter into the contract.

I wasn't sure where to post this, but ISU's website says you must have 30 credit hours through them. I plan to complete my other non-nursing classes through Ball State. Obviously, I will complete all nursing through ISU. Are the nursing credits alone enough to allow for graduation from ISU?

Yes, there are 41 nursing credits through ISU so you'll be fine taking the support courses elsewhere - that's what I did.
