The only A&P I class available at the local community college (which is the only option for taking it now) is the online one (yes, with an online lab, God only knows exactly how this works). I am NOT happy with this, but there are just no other options. I'm going to try to find out *exactly* what they even mean by "online lab" tomorrow, but I don't have a very good feeling about it. Would any program accept this type of class to fulfill a prerequisite, or is it just better to not even waste my time? All advice appreciated.

I'm taking an online a&p class and I LOVE it! The class is accepted by all our local community college programs, private universities, as well as our local teaching hospital's nursing and physician assistant programs. The lab and lecture info are combined for each learning module, and we take one test that covers both the physiology and anatomy aspects of the body system we are studying. If I were you, I would talk to the teacher who teaches the online class, and they can tell you the manner in which their class is structured. I know some people have to buy lab kits and do dissections at home, but we don't do this. Find out more about the class, you may be pleasantly surprised!

If it's the same course number as the in-person type of course, of course they accept it or it wouldn't exist. What would be the point if it didn't count towards anything? I signed up for an online version once. I did not care for the format, so dropped. But they are usually very well organized and you learn exactly the same thing as the in-person version. I never felt the lab portion of an in-person AP class was that helpful anyway. Seemed the physiology is most important and you get supplied with a million images/diagrams anyway. All the 3D models are still at the school for you to look at too. IMO, online courses take a bit more time to ace than an in-person course. Good luck. I'd wait to see if I could fit in at the last minute. People always drop.

My school accepts it online. I wanted to take it in person, but that just wasn't a possibility, so I'm taking it online this summer.
I can tell you that for my class, lab is online using the Anatomy and Physiology Revealed software.
If a nursing program would accept the online class, then I would have absolutely no problems taking it that way. I just had awful visions of going through it and then having nobody accept it.

I took mine through ccconline and it is accepted to both University BSN programs I have looked in to. BTW, we dissected a heart, brain, eye and pig for our labs. I loved my classes this way, got A's too.

I just finished online AP1 and got an A. The lab was easy, in my opinion, and the only disection we had to do was on a chicken leg bone. As for the course, it was self taught, my teacher not very helpful in responding to things I didn't understand. If you have time to really study the lessons and research through you tube or i tunes university for lectures and animations for the portions you don't fully grasp, you will have no problem making a good grade.

I love online learning. However, I noticed that one of the local universtities had a policy specifically prohibiting online lab classes. I think that as long as your school accepts that course #, and you get that in writing, that you should be A-OK!

Most schools accept it, there is only one school I've found that specifically states online courses arne't accepted and when I inquired aout this, they told me they would require verification by the department (biology) from the school where you took it that the lab was taken in-class vs. online. However, I'm not sure how this works or if they really do require it. I know there are many people though, who have taken it online and done fine.

I will start an online AP come Sept '10 and the way I look at it, if the school offers it, then its accepted. And if it's accepted then you can sit for NCLEX.....if they didn't, no school would offer and many people would quickly realize it's a hoax - it doesn't work!!!!
Same goes for online vs actual classroom. Again, if it didn't work, schools would NOT offer it, period! It works for some and doesn't for others. Some people love online, some people hate it. Some have no choice (as in my case - I work a fulltime job, no way I can fit an in-classroom setting into my life. I have a mortgage, gotta keep the bread coming in somehow!) If you're are serious and committed, you will make it work!
You just have to take the bull by the horn and run with it. :)

So which schools offer online A&P with lab? Excelsior has an online but no lab. I am concerned that when I apply for MSN that it would not be accepted.
I don't know if there's such. I'm sure it depends on state and where the school is located. I'd be careful especially for transferring to another states. Many states have college agreements but will be different for others, and you REALLY will have to do some homework and research, research, research. This is my 1st time ever in the medical field and understand. And I've been researching nursing schools all the way through MSN programs. I've even emailed a few colleges stating I have an online BSN degree from xyz school, what are you requirements etc on this. And they've told me.
I've said before and I will say it again, if this is your passion and you really want to do this (NS) and you're concerned about your education as you go along, use the internet as your tool......send out a few emails, read blogs, contact colleges and universities (that's why they have advisors) contact your state's board of Nurses...see what they have to say.
Good luck!
