One year experience, is it law?

Just wondering if anyone knows if its now a law to require one year of experience when working for home health. I went to LVN school about 3 years ago but only got my license recently. Lots of my classmates ended up working with Home Health as their first jobs, but now when I contact those same companies, they need one year experience.

Dont know if its law, or there is just an influx of new LVN's and they need to do that. I am in CA

From what was explained to me.... medicaid will only reimburse for caregiver services by someone with at least 1 year experience.

I don't think scope of practice law in CA includes any sort of preliminary time period that would serve the purpose of training or providing practice opportunities for doing something otherwise within the scope of practice, and the one year experience requirement is something each company or facility may require. It's possible they have such an abundance of people looking for jobs, they're using that standard as a way to start weeding people out right away.

I have worked alongside several people in CA who were hired by home health agencies as their first job out of nursing school. I am quite certain that the agencies are using the economy to weed out inexperienced (and experienced) job applicants.

In Hawaii, its according to the company. NurseFinders (now Bayada) requires 1 yr exp. Other agencies don't, and will almost hire you on the spot in some cases.
