One thing I learned today is that honesty will get you nowhere in Nursing School.

Published

I was supposed to take an exam at 8:30 am in the morning today, but my phone which was fully charged and plugged in decided to completely die over night, how? I have no idea.

I woke up at around 10:00 am and noticed how bright my room was, I quickly tried looking at my phone to see the time and noticed it was off. Yep, I have missed a nursing exam! I felt sick to my stomach and started panicking.

The very thing I immediately did was explain my situation honestly to my instructor and what happened. Our Syllabus policy states that we are able to make up an exam with a VALID excuse before the test, but I of course decided to be honest, and well, guess what? I was denied my exam and got a big fat 0.

So I pretty much lost a letter grade.

Anyway, I know the instructors will tell you to be honest all the time, but in situations like mine, you should lie.

She even encouraged me drop out of nursing school, even though I got A's on my last two exams. I can still make a B if I worked hard, but I can't believe she would encourage that.

That's my rant, thanks for listening.

What conclusion?

That the OP has good grades...

We only know from the OP that they want him to drop the class; and he only reports that because he got a 0, he drops a letter grade, but not WHICH letter grade.

The OP has not yet volunteered more information on why the instructor advised him to drop...the instructor may or may not have reasons, and we don't know and will never know the instructor either.

And based upon the OP's other thread with no follow up, we're not likely to either.

Hey OP, just a word of advice. Change your profile picture if that is you. A prospective employer may one day be on this site and see your picture and that your user name is Glorifiedbuttwiper. They will also see where you said in certain situations, you should lie. I guarantee you that you won't be getting a call back for an interview. You should be more professional than that.

Great advice, don't be yourself, instead hide behind a stupid cat picture and judge others with hypocrisy.

How exactly am I "judging others with hypocrisy"? I'm sure a lot of people here will agree with the advice I'm giving.

You are judging the OP saying he should be more professional. That's like saying you should be more professional if your car broke down on your way to the test even tho the reason for not taking the test was out of his control. What happened to the OP had nothing to do with professionalism, get off your high horse.

I'm saying that name like Glorifiedbuttwiper and telling people to lie because they made a mistake is unprofessional. You car breaking down is one thing but relying on only a cell phone as an alarm clock is something completely different. Prospective employer's will see this and wonder if he is lying about this to cover himself, what else would he lie about.

I disagree, your cell breaking is the same as your car breaking, they are both tools to help us, both prone to failure.

And you never lie? All I am saying is that we all lie, big or small is irrelevant we ALL lie.

Yes, but if your car breaks down on your way to school, you are going to call your instructor and let them know what happened because you would have been on time. Oversleeping is an entirely different situation.

Oversleeping because your phone broke thus being unable to test is the same as not being able to take the test due to the car breaking. My point is that we all should judge less.

I never, ever lie. (Allow the board's philosophers time to discern that one ☺️)

I agree the OP should change his profile picture. This is not judgment, this is not looking down my nose at him. Message boards and the interwebs are crawling with freaks and weirdos who enjoy nothing better than to cyber stalk people they discover they know in real life. Message boards and the interwebs are also filled with people more willing to share more unprofessional and uncensored opinions than they would in real life because they don't realize the freaks and weirdos are watching. (i.e. Lie to save your grades.)

In casual conversation with people local to me in the nursing world, I've learned that a massive percentage of them are here on allnurses. I'd rather they not know who I am, or at least not know for sure. Then again, if they really feel like digging, it's not hard to figure out because I've shared demographic information about myself that only describes me fairly obviously. I like knowing they'll have to work for it, though. ☺️ They'll have enough posts here to keep them busy if they really want to dig for it. God knows they won't figure it out by my weirdo kitty avatar.
