One quiz question I am struggling with

Hi,

I am finishing up a OB quiz and am stuck on one question. The question is: A 16-year-old is making her first prenatal visit to the clinic in her fourth month of pregnancy. The nurse's first responsibility would be to:

a. contact the social worker

b. develop a trusting relationship

c. schedule the client for prenatal classes

d. teach the client about proper nutrition

I have ruled out a and c and am trying to decide between b and d. I'm hung up on the phrase FIRST responsibility. It would seem to me that developing trust would be good to help ensure that the teen would follow through with appointments etc, but emphasis on maternal nutrition is also extremely important. It comes down to picking the most correct answer. Any suggestions?

I agree with those who say B. Just because she is coming to see you doesn't mean she trusts you yet. You have to build that trusting relationship before anything else can happen.

I would say B, because a trusting relationship is a basis for a nurse-patient relationship. Everything else, including teaching comes later.

I'd say B is the first too. Theres no way you can get a patient's cooperation & deliver all appropriate care without FIRsT gettin/gaining her trust.

I believe I had a question very similar to this (if not almost word for word) and the answer was B. The relationship is first (just like you'd assess before you'd diagnose or plan).

if this were an nclex question the answer would be D. always remember maslow, psychosocial takes last priority, physical over psychosocial....etc
