One Hour National Walk-out

Nurses Activism

Published

NURSES will never be taken seriously nor given the respect deserved as a profession until nurses UNITE and stand together as A PROFESSION . Shoulder to shoulder STANDING UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT

The time has come for nurses to make a SOLID and BOLD statement for all to see. The time has some for a ONE HOUR NATIONAL WALKOUT for the world to see.

The time has come for a STRONG VOICE of an ABUSED PROFESSION BE HEARD.

This endeavor will not be so easy. BUT it can be done.

BE PROUD AND STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!

par for the course - you cant get most nurses to do anything to help themselves. Thats why we're still in the mess we're in.

But you can always get plenty of them to complain about it.

Luckily some things do change, & seeing all the work active nurses are doing lately, I have hope.

jt: I just want to applaud you and your co-workers for the very brave action you took to support your DON. I would have loved to have been there; it must have been an awsome sight to behold all those nurses standing up and saying, "We're not going to take this lying down!"

Fantastic, guys!!

Fantastic, guys!!>

Thanks. It wasnt just to support the DON - there was no love lost between her & the nurses - it was over what the CEO did to nursing there, after already eliminating most of our nursing administration & putting the staff RNs under the control of chief MDs instead, firing the DON for standing up for nurses was the last slap in the face they would take.

I have to be honest though & tell you the nurses were scared sh****! Shaking, worrying & questioning themselves as they went down the stairwells - even all the way from the 11th floor cause we didnt want to be caught in a suddenly "stuck" elevator! It was a great day. I cut the story short but Im sure you can imagine the feeling of empowerment the nurses had just from taking a stand for those 15 minutes. And the shock when they saw how just that one stand changed so many things for the better at our hospital. It was 1998 & They still talk about it.

This was done last year in Poland, land of Solidarity. Outcome: more promises/no change.

Think carefully, USA has not been pro, solidarity in a long time, public opinion can turn against you. More effective action: Nurses applying pressure to elected officials.
