OMG! First day as a nurse!

Published

OMG, I am so nervous/excited/scared!! Tommorrow I start my first day as a nurse at my first job after graduating school. I did a career switch so this is my first healthcare job as well. Oh please pray for me.:trout:

you will do just fine . just remember to breathe ......just alittle bit.

Specializes in LTC.

Ok so my second day was a little better than my first. I think it will take a while before I get the "hang" of the daily routine. Thank you all again.

Specializes in Telemetry/Med Surg.

Hang in there...I'm sure you'll do fine. One day at a time!

Specializes in Travel Nursing, ICU, tele, etc.

Your first day will most likely involve shadowing your preceptor, meeting people and finding out where stuff is etc....it will be a very fun day!! Watch especially how she does her assessment. When she listens to lungs, you listen too... or when she checks pulses, do it too, etc.

I remember being amazed how scattering the job seemed, she had in mind a routine to follow and to show me, but it rarely went that way...kind of like the job itself, you are pulled in so many different directions, putting out fires sometimes, or just answering call lights!! It even seems like work to take a break!!

The first few days are just to let you get your feet wet, they should be relatively stress free... relax and enjoy it. It certainly is a lot easier than nursing school clinicals, at least it was for me.

Good luck and remember to have some fun!!!;););)
