Oklahoma introductions....

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Some of us in this forum have been here for a while, but there have been several new "faces" lately. :welcome:

So maybe we can do introductions.

Tell us :

your first name (if you want)

where you live

where you work, and what your position is, how long you've been there, etc

if you are in school, the name and type of program

plans for future education

and anything else that's fun to know about you.

Here's me:

My name is Lana (I always tell people that Lana sounds like Banana, and that's how I ended up with my nickname)

I live in Tulsa and have been here for 6 years, 4 years in OKC before that.

I have been at St. John's as a CNA for 1 month and it's sooo educational! I've very glad to have that experience.

I'm in the LPN program at Tulsa Technology Center and it looks like I will be able to finish in late February or early March, I want to take the boards sometime in March though.

After finishing that I am planning to go straight into TCC's LPN-RN program or possibly working a year and then doing OU's LPN-BSN or Langston's LPN-BSN if they have it up and running.

I'm single and looking (although not looking very hard because I don't have time for dating right now!), am 28 years old, and am quickly becoming the "crazy cat lady" because my cat is my baby. She's pictured in my avatar. If you guys have seen that commercial on TLC about "dating is hard, but so is becoming the crazy cat lady," that suits me to a T! I'm going to buy myself the figureine that they sell for it!

Who's next?????

hi, my name is kristina and i have lived in owasso for the past 5 years. i just got my acceptance letter from ou-tulsa today for the fall 2007 bsn program and can't wait until school starts. i am currently finishing up my last semester at tcc and osu-tulsa and looking forward to being a nurse. i have a wonderful husband and two beautiful daughters, 13 and 9. my plans are to work for a couple of years after nursing school and then going back to get my master's degree. good luck to everyone and i hope to meet some new friends in the nursing field.......:lol2:

Hey y'all - I've jumped into a few threads but haven't introduced myself yet...

I'm Traci. I'm 32 and live in OKC w/ my husband and our 2 dogs. I'm pursuing my BSN at OCU and love it - eventually I hope to pursue an advanced degree. I grew up in Tulsa/Broken Arrow and most of my family still lives in the area so I hope we can someday move back there!!

Hey! I have applied to OCU, and actually spoke to an advisor today who told me she would review my transcripts as soon as they get there (mailed them in today!!) She seemed pretty possitive about me getting in though...and if I do I will be moving to OKC from Tulsa with a friend doing the same thing! I was just curious how the "Science Technology" class you have to take is? I will probably be taking it this summer...also do you know of any nice apartment complexes close to campus (but not on campus housing?) Im not familiar with the area and need some help!! Thanks so much!!

Hello, my name is Brandi.

Starting adult nurse practitioner program at Vanderbilt in August

Graduated from OU HSC

I still have all my books for anyone planning on attending OUHSC next year!

Hey Jessi - I just checked this thread for the first time in a while, sorry for the delay in replying. My only suggestion for the science/technology/society class is to do whatever you possibly can to get into the summer II session with Dr. Jones - if the class is full then come up with a good reason why you must take it in 2nd session and then beg for permission to enroll. I mean, it won't be the worst thing in the world to take it 1st session, but it will make a world of difference... I'm just going to bed right now (last clinical tomorrow!! must be there bright and early at 6:30!!), but I will follow up with you tomorrow and explain better.

BrandiannRN was that the accelerated program or the tradiational? I start the accelerated in May, so I might be interested....

CONGRATULATIONS BTW! Good luck @ .

Hey everyone! I'm Bethani, I live in Broken Arrow, I'm 23, married for 4 years, 1 1/2 year old daughter, 2 dogs. Going to Interim for my CNA starting Monday and then who knows from there. I'm thinking about trying to work at St. John's but still not sure, I want to work in the maternity dept. - either L&D, Postpartum, the NICU or the nursery. Not sure if I should go for the LPN and then start the prereqs for the TCC nursing bridge program or just skip the LPN. I worry that the whole thing is going to take me longer than most people because I'll have to work full time and also have a family and house to take care of. I'll get through it somehow!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Melissa. I live in Guymon, OK... Ever heard of it???? LOL I'm sure you've been through here if you've traveled to Colorado. I am 36 and embarking on a new career. I have two children, 8 & 17. I work full-time as Secretary of the Texas County Election Board. I am returning to school (after 13 years) next month. It looks like I've got quite a bit of work ahead of me.... I hope to be accepted into OSU-OKC's RN Nursing Program in the Spring.... **Keeping my fingers crossed and praying really hard** If anyone has any advice/tips, I would honestly appreciate it!!! Thank you!

Hello Melissa and all other propective nursing students.

I always tell people that, yes, it will be a lot of work and take a lot of your time. I couldn't have pulled it off if my DH hadn't been very helpful and supportive. Be careful to limit other commitments, if possible. Don't neglect your family, but realize that this is going to take a lot of your time. When I was in school, I was up till 4 at least once a week, sometimes twice, doing homework. Then I'd get up about 6 and get ready for school. Don't work at a job much at all if you don't have to.

If you're a single parent, or anyone with kids at home, take a good look at your support system before you attempt this. Sometimes it's a matter of timing. I don't mean to discourage anyone, but take a good hard look at whether this is the right time in your life to be in nursing school.
