OHSU 3 Year BSN, 2019 Fall Start!!!

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

It was the last day to do it, but I OFFICIALLY SUBMITTED MY APPLICATION TO OHSU!!!! ?

Anyone else applying for this cohort?

A little about me: I am an older, non-traditional student, single Mama with 8 and 13 year old boys! I currently hold a BA in Psych. I wanted to apply to the ABSN, however, my Statistics class is over 7 years old, and it was also a C. ? I will just have to retake it, if I end up needing to apply next year. This is also my very first application cycle. ?

I feel like OHSU is definitely my top choice, but I will also be applying to Linfield, and possibly Concordia (only because they have an accelerated program, and seem to offer more start dates.

Now the waiting begins!!!! ? ?

Hello all!

I applied to the Portland campus for the 3 year BSN. I have a 3.8 for prereqs and a 3.08 undergrad with a degree in psych. I have 300+ volunteer hours at OHSU in the ED and neuro/ent inpatient unit and I volunteer at Old Town Clinic downtown. I applied to the OHSU ABSN Ashland campus as well and I have an interview for that in a week. Hoping that since I used the same essays I'll get an interview for the 3 year as well! I'd rather do the ABSN but I would definitely do the 3 year program if I didn't get in to the ABSN.

Excitedly awaiting the interview invites! I hope we all get interviews!

I applied to the Ashland campus. I have a bachelors in biology with a 2.9 gpa but my prerequisites GPA is a 3.81. I currently work as an EVS at OHSU and also volunteer there. I also worked as a clinical lab tech for a year. Hopefully I am competitive enough to get into the Ashland Campus. I just need to ace that interview.

One week until interview offers are sent out! I am so nervous and am having dreams about not getting an email?

I have already accepted that I’m not getting an invitation. Lol

Anyone else get an invite to the mock interviews? And who is going to the Ashland mock interview? Or those who have done it, how did it go?

Specializes in Emergency Room, CEN, TCRN.

You're the one that speaks a lot of languages, right?

They absolutely love people who are well-traveled or come from unique cultural backgrounds that can work well with diverse populations.

Don't count yourself out yet.

Ach. Freaking out here as well. Probably have talked to 40 nurses in the past week about it, sure I'm getting on their nerves ?

I've applied to OHSU, CCC, and MHCC. I have no expectations of getting into any school this year as I have zero work experience and the point system now heavily minimizes GPA. I plan on taking the CNA course and getting my work experience for next year if I don't get in, though! I want to be a pediatric oncologist nurse, and I'm prepared to do what I need to in order to get there.

I have absolutely loved taking all my prerequisites! It has been hard, but a breath of fresh air for me as a mother of three kids. Good luck to all of you! :)

Haha I actually am. I’m a first generation immigrant if that has anything to do with it. I currently have a 3.81 GPA now since they don’t English into consideration if you have a previous bachelors. I also have A&P III remaining so hopefully that won’t hurt me too much. I went to the mock interview last week and learnt a lot. Can’t wait to see whether I get an invite next week and hopefully if I do, my interview helps me get in. I just need to work on my interview skills and don’t let anxiety get in the way of explaining to them why I truly want to be a nurse and work in healthcare.

What do you think helped you the most in the mock interviews? I wish they did them in Portland!

I haven’t done an interview in a long time so it was eye opening to see how bad I was in expressing my thoughts under stress. Therefore once I get an invitation to the real one, I’ll be practicing a lot more for it than I’ve done for past interviews. Some of the questions they asked were why do you want to be a nurse, why ohsu, and how do you handle conflicts with others. For the Ashland campus, the interview involves 4 face to face interviews with different interviewer and question, and 1 proctored essay. Each question you’ll get 8 mins to answer.

La Grande sent out interview letters today! I got accepted for an interview April 5th. Good luck everyone! I hope you get your emails quick:)
