OHSU Fall 2015 BSN

Published

Hey all,

Anyone else applying for Fall 2015 BSN program at OHSU?

I am getting my application together now, but I wont be able to finalize or submit it until after December when fall term grades are posted. I am only applying to OHSU, specifically the Monmouth campus. I currently have a 3.93GPA and after Fall term I will have all but two prerequisites finished. The remaining two are Writing-122 and Nutrition.

I think I have a pretty competitive application but there is still a lot of doubt.

I have experience working in long term care and also as an EMT in an under served rural community. I know I will also get extra consideration for having already taken Microbiology.

I know we are still months away from interviews or acceptance letters but it would be nice to get the conversation started and get to know others who will be applying for 2015.

@shannon_m i cant find the group love. is it under "secret" group or closed group?

I got my packet in the mail today! There's lots to do and once you send in your admission agreement and deposit it said that they will send a link to a Facebook group for our cohort. :)

Does it give you tons of information? I have so many questions.

Hi efda,

Now that you've gone through almost an entire year, what advice would you give to new students? How has your experience been? Thank you!

Hi! Sorry, it's been so busy I haven't checked back here in awhile. I love my program. We have the best instructors who only want the best for us! Just remember to TRUST THE PROCESS. This is a 3-year program. You will learn all the skills you need to learn in addition to the critical thinking skills expected of a BSN. It is EXTREMELY challenging. I recommend that you utilize as many resources as possible when you are studying. For instance: the publishers of many of our books have a website where they have practice quizzes for each chapter. This is really helpful, especially when it comes to Patho and Pharm. Also, start thinking about the possibility of not getting an A and be ok with it. These classes are difficult and they involve learning a crap-ton of material while also asking you to learn a whole new way of thinking. Rote memorization will only get you so far. Don't try to read every word in every chapter. Learn to skim and utilize the "Key Points" found in most of your texts.

Enjoy your summer! Read books that have nothing to do with nursing. Spend as much time as possible with your families. Learn to meal plan. Buy comfortable shoes. If you have tattoos, learn how to cover them for skills lab and clinical. Get involved! There will be events coming up that will give you opportunities to meet and greet with your cohort - go! These people will become your family, and it's never too early to start getting to know them.

If you still need to take upper division courses for your BSN, start registering now at WOU. There are courses available that only take a week or two to get through them over the summer.

Be prepared for an awesome journey, my friends.

Thank you efda2! Great advice.

leteresa93, It was a closed group but I deleted it yesterday since I found out that OHSU will be providing us with a Facebook group once we send in our agreements and deposits.

I'm trying to find ways to meet and communicate with other people in the 2015 Fall BSN cohort. Any suggestions? Is the facebook page open yet? Also, I need to move to Portland in September and am hoping I can find others in the program to share housing with.

See you all soon btw :)

I turned down my spot at OHSU Portland campus. Hopefully this will be good news to someone on the waitlist! Good luck to everyone. I really liked the people I met at my interview, so I can only imagine what a good group you'll have!

Did anyone get on the alternate list at the OHSU LaGrande Campus?

Hey to everyone applying again this year! I have a question about the pre reqs. I've taken WR 121, Do I need Wr 122 or can I take Wr 227 instead?

I believe that you need 122. WR227 (Technical Writing) is a requirement for most bachelor programs, yet in addition to the two mandatory writing courses (WR121,WR122)....

Ok, gotcha. Are you starting OHSU this Fall!?
