Hi everyone! I haven’t seen a thread on this years BSN program and wanted to connect with other applicants! I was waitlisted last year, and applied again to the Ashland campus. How’s everyone feeling about their application?

I am listed in. the middle as "moderately likely" to be offered admission. I have ZERO healthcare experience other than volunteer hours at community health fairs. I did have all prerequisites and core requisites completed. My Science GPA is 3.4 and my overall GPA is 3.8 (with a repeat course in Anatomy). I think my essays helped me stand out as well as my 250 hours for non-profits, working 2 years with underprivileged youth and underserved cultural programs. TEAS 84%. I applied to a ton of schools knowing my TEAS and GPA weren't competitive. I have applied to CSU San Marcos, CSU East Bay, CSU Chico, SF State, San Diego State, OHSU, and the University of Tulsa. I have been rejected by all except OHSU(Alternate) and waiting on Chico (May 15) and spoke with UT today (letters are sent this week. The program director said I am highly likely to be accepted). Good luck, applying was hard and the prereqs were tough. Be kind to yourself, this *** is hard and way competetive.

Thank you for sharing! You sound like a great applicant despite having no healthcare experience. I am in a similar position... I have what I call "unofficial" health care experience, in that I helped care for a disabled family member with chronic illnesses for several years. I have a 3.9 pre-req GPA, prior associate degrees, ~400 hours of volunteer experience (not health care related), first generation/non-traditional college student, though I'm not sure how strong my essays were, yikes. I knew not having health care experience would count against me. If I don't make it into PCC, I plan to enroll in a CNA program, then gain health care work experience so I can increase my chances for next year. Thanks again and I hope you are offered a spot in one or both of the programs you are waiting to hear back on ?

If it helps anyone, I got accepted into OHSU’s Portland branch. NursingCAS showed my GPA as a 3.88, although I retook the two classes I got B’s in and so my actual transcripts showed a 4.0. I got all A’s in A&P with no retakes. I had about 7 months of official CNA experience in a SNF, and about a two years worth of experience working in an adult care home, but only one year of that was as an official CNA. I was able to use my healthcare experience and experience growing up close to a healthcare environment since my parents had an adult care home for my essays. I had a pretty small amount of volunteer experience working with homeless, maybe 10-20 hours? I can’t quite remember but it wasn’t much. I hope this helps!

Thank you!! This is my first year of applying to nursing school. I want to go with the traditional 3-year program because it fits my schedule better. I got my BSN in Clinical Health and Psychology. My prerequisite GPA is 3.8 and I have 2000+ hours of healthcare experience. I hope this helps!
On a side note. Has anyone received the official admission letter for the Portland campus yet?

For my nursing friends at the Ashland campus:
I am planning on visiting campus this week to get a feel for it and I would love to speak to some current nursing students if that is possible. I have tried contacting our program coordinator from the email we received in the acceptance letter, but I have not received a response. Do any of you possibly know of any current students that I could speak to and hopefully meet up with later this week? Or do you have any advice on who to contact to set up meetings with current students and get a tour of the nursing corner at the OHSU Ashland campus? Any guidance would be beyond helpful! Thanks in advance ?

Thank you for sharing! I meant to respond to this sooner. I just found out that I was accepted to PCC’s nursing program. OHSU was my first choice, but I am overjoyed that I received at least one acceptance out of the schools I applied to. I hope you enjoy your upcoming studies and journey towards becoming a nurse ?

If you've already taken your prerequisites, what are suggested classes to take the Summer before your program starts?

You could probably get enrolled in a university and do some upper division elective credits but I would just enjoy my last Summer of sanity! ?
especially if you will be getting FAFSA, saving those classes to do alongside nursing classes will be good. There will be terms where your credit load doesn’t come out to full time with just the nursing classes.
@sarawalecki fair points. My thing is that I just want to make sure that I'm as prepared as possible and that all of the appropriate material is fresh in my mind . Any recommendation for classes to best prepare for the first term/year ?

You could go back through your A&P and refresh on the systems. That will help you. My school gave us a free optional refresher course to work on over the Summer if we want to. If you’re insistent on taking classes this Summer, talk to your school’s advisors for advice. I personally will be spending my Summer taking the classes “Sleep,” “lake days,” and “travel.” It’s a full time course load. ?

Hi everyone!
Do any of y'all know what the class schedule looks like for the 3-year BSN in Ashland starting this fall? I'm trying to give my work a notice before dropping hours but I haven't gotten any information about schedules yet.
Thank you ?

if you go back to fall 21 schedule, looks like it’s gonna be all on Wed. But that could change. You can also reach out to the program coordinator listed in your admission packet they should be able to let you know more.
