OHSU BSN, Fall 2022

Published

Hi everyone! I haven’t seen a thread on this years BSN program and wanted to connect with other applicants! I was waitlisted last year, and applied again to the Ashland campus. How’s everyone feeling about their application?

How are you guys feeling about the interviews? I’m very nervous for mine tomorrow, anyone have any tips ?

Hi Boba22. So sorry for the late response! Something I did to ease my anxiety before the interview was I visualized it beforehand-- I pictured myself in the interview being calm and collected. I also tried not to think of it as an interview but more so as a conversation with a professor so that I didn't feel so stressed but also maintained professionalism. Take a deep breath, show you passion for nursing, and be yourself. You totally got this, I believe in you!

This is such great advice! I listened to this podcast on Spotify called “233: 5 Medical School Interview Questions and How to Answer Them” which really eased my anxiety. It’s not a med school interview but there is definitely a lot of overlap in the advice they give on what they are looking for in a nursing student. The visualizing and treating it like a conversation with a professor is also a great strategy! I had a bullet point list made ahead of time of things I wanted to cover and I asked in the waiting room if it was okay for me to have my notes just to cover all of my bases. I made sure to talk about my love for collaborating with my peers via study groups, tutoring, etc to get them to really visualize me as one of their nursing students.
I also had some questions ready at the end that got them talking about aspects of their program for 10+ mins. I used all 35 mins of my time but I never went so far over on time for one question that they had to stop me.
Good luck!
I just hope what I said was enough. Now we wait!

Was this for the Monmouth campus or Ashland? I interviewed for Monmouth and was told there wasn't time for questions at the end even though I finished early.

Anyone have an interview for Monmouth yesterday? How did it go? I feel like mine went so fast! I don't know if that's good or bad. I prepared for so long and it was just over before I realized it. The next couple weeks are going to to take forever.

Oh wow! Mine was for Ashland. Maybe they were just overbooked and wanting a min to take a break. Ashland asked me both years if I had any questions for them. I finished answering my questions at 10:02 and my interview went until 10:15 so I had 10 mins to ask my own questions

Same here! I can't really tell how it went, but am hoping for the best! I am a little nervous on how fast mine went though. Were you given an opportunity to ask question at the end? They told me there wasn't enough time.

No, I was not able to ask questions at all. They said there was not enough time. Do you know if we are all asked the same questions for the interviews or if they change them from candidate to candidate? I was asked about dishonesty, working as part of a team, working under pressure and diversity.

Same! My interview started at 10:15 and I was done within 15 minutes. But I was asked the same questions during my time and was not able to ask any questions. But I’ll be there for the Q & A at 3:30 today. I’m so nervous to find out if I made it in or not. I just hope I impressed them enough to consider me as an ideal applicant
