OHSU BSN, Fall 2021

Published

Hi, first post because I cannot find that much information about this!
Apps recently opened to OHSU's BSN program. I haven't decided if I want to apply to Ashland or Monmouth - I am currently in California (don't hate me Oregonians) but most of my family live close to those two campuses.

Anyone else start their application for OHSU yet?

Also - Any tips for essay question responses? I have a 3.9 GPA in the prereqs and overall, finished all prereqs, and have 4000+ hours of healthcare experience as a medical assistant, but I feel like I still might screw it up if I flub those responses.

Thank you! I'm assuming then they will contact some alternates by then if there is open spots

I wasn't expecting to get in, but it was still pretty disheartening to be put so low on the waitlist as "somewhat likely." I have a 4.0, took 2 Chemistry courses, 3 years of CNA experience, and come from an economically disadvantaged background. My downfall was volunteer experience for sure. Congrats to everyone that got in, you guys are going to be awesome!

If you want some fun and rewarding volunteer hours, I recommend Mt. Hood Kiwanis camp ? You volunteer for two weeks in the Summer with adults with developmental disabilities and get 140+ hours while having a great time. Do you think you did well on the final essays? I think they really wanted to know our strengths, abilities, and aptitude in them but it was tricky with such a small word limit

Another really good volunteering opportunity is joining your campuses nursing student without borders group, you don’t have to be a current student to join and it gives you some ability to network with other students who are in the program

To the all the alternates that are waitlisted there is still hope! The deadline to accept a spot isn't until June so we probably will not hear until then :)

My friend who goes to ohsu said the nursing students who are in her class were alternates! She goes to the Portland campus, and funny enough she said she was surprised who was put as 'alternates' who ended up getting accepted because the 'alternates' end up being smarted then the ones who were just accepted! Weird how they determine who is an alternate and who isn't.

Nothing yet for me. I think people who were accepted have till mid June to decide, so some might hear back about alternate list. Someone could drop out the week before classes start though !

not yet! I'm thinking sometime after June 15, the deadline to accept your spot.

I also know someone on the alternate list (from last year) was offered a spot 2 weeks before school started! I am hopeful, fingers crossed for everyone ?

Do you know if they were highly likely, moderate, or low as an alternate? And what campus?

It was at the OIT campus in Klamath Falls, and they don't rank their alternate list.

Anyone here also waiting to hear back from RCC? If so, do you know when they usually send out decisions? Waiting is so hard!
