OHSU Accelerated Bachelors to Masters 2011

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Anyone else applying to OHSU's accelerated bachelors program this year? The application seems to be open, though I'm not seeing a place to select a specialty within it.

Everyone at the event was applying for the CNM program, so I guess they just must do PMHNP differently. Good luck!!

Whew! Thanks for the reply ylime =). Saved me tons of anxiety lol.

i applied to the absn program only too, but i have no idea when we'll hear anything. i know that's not very helpful but i didn't want you to think you were alone! :) looking back at old posts, it looks like last year they heard by phone starting mon, march 22. so long to wait!!

Such a long time! A lot of the other schools I applied to require deposits and decisions by early March so I really hope to hear sooner that mid-March. We will just wait and see I guess.

If it helps, I asked the OHSU folks I phone-interviewed with when we should know by and they seemed to think by the end of February. I have the same issue with schools requiring decisions and deposits soon...one by 2/07! And my last school (UCSF) doesn't even tell us until April...so it could be worse

For what it's worth, I got the impression at my interview that they would have made decisions by this point for the ABM-CNM program, just waiting for the Admissions to send out the letters.

Also, Tanya, I wrote a really long response to your inquiry about people who made it out to campus to interview, and it got deleted by accident. Long story short: I can only speak for the CNM program (the ABSN part wasn't really discussed that much) but I was really bowled over by facilities and faculty and views and the city. It's a beautiful spot, a magical mythical medical kingdom on a hill with a big view of the city and the river... I know the CNM program is top-notch and the faculty seemed accessible and professional and dedicated, though I can't really speak to the PMHNP program. Good luck! Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Hi people. I am an ABSN student and have good friends in both the CNM & PMH tracks. Our cohort is 64 people, 16 of which are in the fast track to be NP's (8 midwives and 8 psych np's.) I was just remembering how I was in your same position last year and how I wish I would have had someone to answer questions so I looked up this year's admissions forums :-)

I heard about my acceptance approximately March twenty-something'th. It's a phone call followed by a letter. They would absolutely not tell me anything as I called multiple times stressing the fact that I was battling multiple deadlines. I lost $500 deposit to one school while waiting to hear from OHSU, but ultimately it was worth the wait. One interesting thing is that the professors actually read the essays themselves!

If I can answer any other questions re: Portland, OHSU, program requirements, etc., ask! I will follow this forum so you can ask on here. :-)

Hi there,

this forum is great-thanks to everyone who has been contributing. I have my OHSU PMHNP interview today and am NERVOUS! Not sure what they'll ask me or what to ask them...any advice? Also, did other people's interviews last 30 minutes only? or more/less? I also applied to the CNM NP program and OHSU called and suggest I apply to the CNM Doctoral program, but I have heard nothing from OHSU regarding CNM....I'm assuming that means I do not get an interview? Does anyone know anything about a waitlist?

I'm pretty pumped about the PMHNP program and wonder if anyone can tell me if that program had an event like the CNM potluck?

OKay, lots of questions and I leave for my interview in a few hours.

Hope to hear back from ya'll and goood luck to everyone out there!

Cheers,

L

PS I bought a suit at ROSS, did others wear suits?

Hi Lola-

I am going for the psych track as well, and I already had my (phone) interview. I'm not sure if the in-person interview is the same, but for the phone interview it was like a conference call: the whole PMHNP faculty (5 or 6 people) was on their end of the line and I was on speaker throughout the entire interview - just a bit intimidating! I'm not sure if for the in-person interviews you also interview with the whole panel or just one or a couple people.

As for content, there wasn't anything unexpected and they give you as chance in the end to add anything you'd like or talk about anything you want that they didn't ask you which is nice. The questions they asked were why OHSU, how you would be able to handle the stress of the program and relocating to Oregon (I live in CA), things that could potentially hinder your program status, how you would describe yourself vs. how others would describe you, and why OHSU should select you for their program. My interview lasted the full 30 minutes, possibly a bit longer, but that could be because I interviewed with so many people.

Best of luck on your interview :) Maybe we will be studying together this summer!

Tanya

I applied to the ABSN program... the email I received says, "All the applications for the Accelerated Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing program will be forwarded to the reviewing committee mid-February and decision letters will be mailed late March/early April."

hope that helps

Has anybody contacted the faculty after their interview for a follow up of any kind? It probably doesn't make a difference either way, but I am wondering if other people though it was an appropriate thing to do. I hope we all hear back soon!

I did not contact the faculty at all, but maybe I should have? At the interviews they told us we could expect decisions in 3-4 weeks, right? So we should hear something really soon? I'm having a hard time waiting right now . . .
