Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone else is applying for the ABSN at OHSU for 2021? I just submit my application for the Ashland campus and would love to connect with other people who are applying! I'm feeling pretty nervous about how competitive the program is ?

I am not sure if the interview will be just one applicant and a panel or if it will be a group interview. I was told that they were going to add a "proctored essay" that will take place an hour before the interview. They said they will send out more information later on the essay portion but I want to start mentally preparing now. Has anyone done a proctored essay before? I want to know if I should sharpen up on my speed typing or if that is not what they are focusing on. HA!
Based on an experience doing a proctored essay for another program, I would imagine it is very likely they may ask a question involving COVID and possibly its affect on underrepresented communities.
Having a time limit on the essay makes it super stressful. The question threw me off and I almost went blank for a bit. I'm sure most people do this, but the best thing to do is to write a quick bullet-point outline first thing to make sure you have a foundation for your ideas. Otherwise, it may come out sounding like a confused stream of consciousness. Always be sure to open with a single sentence thesis or place it somewhere in the beginning, and close with a reference back to the original point of the prompt somehow. I know this is basic essay writing 101, but just sharing in case it all goes out the window under pressure. ?
Best of luck!!
To those asking about interview invites for the Ashland ABSN:
The deadline for the first group invited to confirm their interview spot was this past Monday. That means OHSU has likely sent out another round of invites and are waiting on confirmation from those applicants. They'll continue to send out invites until all spots are filled-- I think they interviewed 55-60, last year. Thus, if you haven't yet received an invite yet, keep an eye on your inbox, this week. There's still a chance.

Thank you so much for this info, you have been SUCH a help in this process. That makes sense, so if anyone gets an email this week please let us know! Sucks that this process seems kinda grey and not transparent, but you have seriously been such a help. Thank you!

Of course! I can relate to your frustration. This is my third year applying to nursing school. Wasn't well prepared my first attempt, but I've worked really hard to stand out ever since and was still rejected from programs I thought for sure I had a shot at. OHSU waitlisted me as "highly likely" last cycle, so I basically waited for months hoping to receive an admissions notice that never came. Maybe third time is a charm. ?? This year, they're offering a mock interview workshop to interviewees, so hopefully that's insightful.
I'll gladly share my experience as this all plays out. Hang in there. I know it's trite, but when one door closes, another door opens.
