OHSU ABSN to FNP 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey all!

Long time lurker, but now that the application deadline has passed, I feel comfortable finally starting a post.

Just curious to hear who else applied to this program. It's fascinating to me to hear about people's different experiences, stats, expectations, etc. I'm also wondering what other programs people might've applied to? I got my submission in for the Portland ABSN program as well.

Best of luck to everyone! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and perspectives.

I saw it on posts from last year as well, if I remember correctly. Not saying I understand it or like it either, just telling you how it appears to be. There are tons of great nursing program interview resources out there so even though it'd be nice to be able to prepare for specifics, they are going to change year to year and as long as you utilize some resources, you should be fine.

I have been to a couple of interviews and early opportunity days, and all schools have a blurb asking you not to share information regarding interview questions or essay questions. So, it is actually really common and not specific to OHSU to request that of their students.

Luckily I have the banked time and money to go if needed - I just can imagine it being tough for others. Good to know about the proctored essay, though, and that likely no remote option exists. Thank you!

Looks like there potentially is a Skype option! I'm seeing mention of that on one of the other threads floating around, though I imagine you've probably already seen that? I can't make any guarantees and I've never heard it mentioned anywhere else, but that sounds like good news for you.

As much as it sucks in terms of not being able to prep for specific things, it also helps to really keep the playing field even for everyone interviewing, which I personally see as a good thing. If we have strong, clear reasons for wanting to go into the program, good life experience, and do our research, we should all be fine.

Agreed!

Yes - I thought that, too. But, then realized it may just be for the graduate programs (not those who are applying for the ABSN as well). I'd go if offered - the closest I have been to the pacific Northwest is San Francisco. I'd like to see Oregon for a couple days!

I'm probably biased as a native Oregon/Portlander, but it's a great place to visit. Definitely not move, but visiting is awesome.

Also, just emailed the admission office. I don't have any timeline for the ABSN program alone as of yet BUT she told me FNP interview invites should go out next week!

Thanks for the update. That's so exciting and nerve-wracking! I was thinking that it would be another few weeks before we heard anything.

Same here, based off of the week ahead of time from past years. I was expecting around Valentine's Day. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much about hearing back because OHSU isn't always the most reliable on these kinds of things, but I really hope they do get released next week.

Sounds like ABSN only applicants should hear back second or third week of February. Just got an email from the other admissions counselor about that.

That's what I was expecting as well. I applied for both programs. I've heard that they are typically pretty last minute about interview invites, so I feel bad for the out of towners. Good luck! :)

Good luck to you too! I'm hoping she's actually right about interviews and not telling me that so I calm down and don't email admissions in the future, but who knows?

Thank you! Haha, that could be the case since they probably get so many emails asking about the same thing. Is this your first application cycle?
