Hey all!
Long time lurker, but now that the application deadline has passed, I feel comfortable finally starting a post.
Just curious to hear who else applied to this program. It's fascinating to me to hear about people's different experiences, stats, expectations, etc. I'm also wondering what other programs people might've applied to? I got my submission in for the Portland ABSN program as well.
Best of luck to everyone! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and perspectives.
Hi everyone! I am very late to the thread...but I applied to the ABSN - FNP program! This is the only school I've applied to (out of a total of 5) that I still have not heard back from! Anyone heard anything? I am currently interviewing with other schools and have been admitted to a couple, and deciding on whether or not I should pay the deposit to keep my spots in those programs. But OHSU is one of my top choices so I can't wait to hear back!

Hi! I feel your concern! I have an interview next week and will most likely know if I got accepted before OHSU even sends out interviews. What other schools did you apply to? OHSU is my top choice as well so the waiting is hard!
I am surprised at how many people think they need a 4.0 to get accepted. I honestly think that the program is more holistic than merely GPA/GRE or other numeric scores. I particularly felt that OHSU's application wanted to know more about the applicant as a whole. I think that because these programs are designed for individuals who may have not previously thought of graduate school or thought about a different path, there are many factors to consider. I wouldn't worry as much about the GPA.
I agree, most people I have talked to, and other schools I applied to, definitely make it more about who you are as a whole person than just your GPA. I know they are highly competitive and that if it is between you and another candidate your academics may come in, but there is no need to have a 4.0 to be accepted. These schools really aim for a diverse group so I wouldn't stress too much on the academics!

Same! I will have heard from all other schools by that time as well! I applied to accelerated, second degree programs at: University of San Diego (MSN, CNL), Pacific Lutheran University (MSN), Emory University (ABSN, FNP), and Western University of Health Sciences (MSN). What about you? Have you visited OHSU? I have been to Portland quite a few times but never been to campus. Why is OHSU a top choice for you?

Nice choices! I was aiming for Emory (such a great program) but I just never got the ball rolling fast enough, theres was a pretty early submission date! I applied to all accelerated 2nd degree programs also; OHSU DNP, Yale MSN, and University of Vermont DNP. I live in Portland already so OHSU would be great in that aspect, it is also a solid program and has a really good rural health concentration which I am interested in. Which others are your top choice??
Hi there! Unfortunately, I'm still waiting to hear from all of the ones I applied to (OHSU, Seattle University, MGH Institute, Boston College). It's tough to have acceptances and need to make the choice for a deposit. Medical schools have refundable deposits, but it seems that most of the ABSN-MSN/DNP programs don't. When is your deposit due by?
@Simonsc If you already live in OR and are interested in rural health, they also have tuition remission opportunities if you agree to work in rural OR for two years after graduation. I know this is dependent upon if you get in and fully qualify, but it is something to check out if you do!

Hey @mikalyam , yes I have seen this option! There is actually a lot of opportunities via either scholarship or tuition repayment if you agree to work in rural health after graduation. Definitely a perk:)
Woah! Speaking of not hearing back from OHSU - just got an email saying my application was being processed and that I will need to retake a Intro to Genetics course because I took it as part of a Biology course in 2007...way over 7 years ago! Woops! Just glad I heard from the office in general...

From past years threads, OHSU unfortunately seems to move a lot slower in terms of both announcing interview dates and in letting people know they've been admitted. There seems to be a long-standing trend of people having to put down deposits elsewhere because they haven't heard from OHSU yet, which is pretty unfortunate. I haven't heard anything yet but know they've been telling people 4 to 7 days in advance about interviews so I'd assume second(ish) week of February is when we should be hearing about the FNP interviews.

No, I haven't but I applied for the ASBN and the ASBN to FNP-DNP programs and their interview dates are in February and March, so I don't think I'll hear back for another 3-4 weeks, ugh! What about you?
