Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

First time I am hearing of this. When you call you need to specifically speak to the nursing department. I believe the college is closed until the 2nd of January. I live in New Jersey and had no issues enrolling two summers ago.

I recently applied to Ohio State University RN to BSN outreach program. I spent close to $100 on the application fee and sending all my applications to them. When I hadn't heard anything back for more than a month I emailed them, twice, with no response. I finally called them only to find out that I was not eligible for the program due to some new rule regarding state license. They are now only accepting students with RN license for 1 of 14 different states. I am licensed in SD and that is not one of the states they are accepting. I was really disappointed with all the news- upset that it wasn't advertised on their website, nor made aware to me when I originally applied. I did email again asking for documentation of the new rule as I still can find nothing on their website about it. I got an email back advising it is a new rule put in place by the Ohio State Board of Nursing. I am just wondering if anyone else had any similar experiences or has any knowledge of this rule. Thanks everyone!

Some recent changes have taken place at the school of nursing. I believe it is related to accreditation and many states were dropped and student not notified. I'm sorry I don;t know which ones.

Has anyone taken the music requirement or the junior composition class? I am scheduled for both to begin and both are 15 week classes. I will be taking both along with two 5 wk nursing courses (these are taken separately though). I'm wondering if this will be an overwhelming amount of work but I'm hoping since they're 15 wk courses they will be light each week.

I am planning to do the same, but with a nursing course each 5 weeks. I am hoping its doable with the music and comp spread out over 15 weeks.

I took the Junior Comp class (15 weeks) along with another nursing class and Ethics. Comp wasn't bad, ETHICS was terrible!

Can't comment on the Music class because I took the music class along with Intro to sociology and Nutrition as intersession classes from Western Oklahoma State University. Intersession classes are semester classes fit into 10 days. My advisor approved all of these. WAY easier than a 15 week course. Western Oklahoma only allows you to take 9 credits without filling out all an application (transcripts and fees). IT was a great find!

you can get the weekly assignments for music done in one day. I took it with nutrition.

Any idea which 14 states are accepted? I live in California, but ive been enrolled in the program already, so I wonder how it affects people like me. If your state isn't on the list, are you grandfathered in?

Progressivethinking, your best bet would be to email your advisor, and get it in writing. With the switch from quarters to semesters, along with the changes due to the credentialing body, there is a lot of uncertainty, speculation, and rumors. I'd go "straight to the horses mouth", get it in writing, and save it until the day your diploma is in hand.

California is one of the states they r accepting applicants from.
