Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I know what you mean. I've been out of school for 20 years and am wishing that I would have just gone on for my Bachelor's after I got my Associate's Degree. Good luck to you!

I say the same thing. Since I am older, it took me almost three years to get my Associate Degree now it's taking me almost 3 years for the Bachelor Degree. I take one class at a time with sometimes a break in-between for vacation, so it's taking me forever.

What did you guys take online through OU for your Jr Comp, Humanities, Cross-Cultural Perspectives and Fine Arts requirements and how was it for you? Thanks

I took Intro to Arts for my arts course. Although a lot of people take music, as it's 5 weeks. I did the arts over the summer and took an 8 week. Cross cultural I'm taking outside here. Either Western Oklahoma or Edukan. Haven't decided yet.

I also need Chemistry still. Which I'm looking at Oregon State or Edukan. Just depends on how things look after the New Year for me. I'm done with nursing courses in April.

Hi rowdy-piper,

I took Music and it was an easy A. There were weekly quizzes that we could take over until we were satisfied with our grade. There were many listening tests on the chapters. I bought the

CD's which were very helpful. I also took Fashion and Culture and enjoyed the class. There was a midterm and a final which are proctored, discussion posts and papers. The topics were interesting. I still have to take business Communication and Intro to Ethics - hoping they offer 5 week courses.

I just finished music. They now have added exams (one chance) for 4 of the 5 weeks in addition to multiple quizzes each week (retake as many times as needed). We had to sign up for access to the material and listening assignments. I guess that's new since the professor forgot we were not using the CD!

I just finished my last nursing class through Ohio University and I must say it I never thought it was going to end. You read through the syllabus and think your life is over, but the time flies by. Can't believe I am done with the most challenging courses. It is doable but time consuming. I have to take my 4 electives. Have to take Nutrition 1000 and an English class. I just registered for nutrition. Any feedback on the course. If anyone has the text, please I need the ISBN #. the ISBN numbers provided for the course require the whole bundle and I only need the text. Or if anyone wants to sell theirs please let me know. Thank you.

The 2 #s provided in the syllabus are 1-285-15210-7 and 978-1-285-15210-3 custom bundle. When I used the ISBN # from the syllabus I could not find them anywhere! We needed to access the cengage website for our 2 major assignments. The only thing you need to focus on for the exams is the study guide in the back of the book. Not sure if it's only in the bundle pack or not. May want to find out. You'll need to do a 3 day dietary analysis thru that website.

Have any current students taking the RN to BSN online program had enough credits transfer from previous schools that allowed them to be eligible to just fulfill the nursing classes?
