Ohio University FNP Online?

Published

Has anyone attended their program or know anyone who has. They are saying the FNP takes 27 months and the entire cost is $22,100. The cost makes me weary :uhoh3: Trying to find reviews on the internet but not having any success.

You just answered my question. Thanks everyone!

I'm anxious to hear from someone who's in the program. Anyone out there?

I didn't think the online program had begun yet. That may be why you can't find anyone in the program.

I did hear back today. The first group began in January, so this month. There are still a few spots for June enrollment and plenty for August. The biggest problem I see is there is a requirement for at least 3 different preceptors that the student must arrange. Women's health, care of children, and care of adults all require clinicals. Then, you have to follow an FNP as well. So, the potential for 4 different providers! Clinicals begin one year after you start the program.

The clinical requirements aren't going to be an issue - and neither is following an FNP. Fortunately, I work for a very supportive system and can reach out to other institutions as well. Hope I get accepted for January 2013 - or June if all else fails and January is full by the time I get around to applying. Really need to get on the ball but just can't seem to find the time. Hopefully after Bus Comm - if I am still breathing that is :banghead:

I heard that they were awaiting some accreditation for the all online program? Also-how many hours a week are we talking, and we have to find our own preceptors?? I am seriously looking at Wheeling Jesuit University online, as they help with the finding. About the same price, too.

I start this program in January 2012. It is going well so far but very intense and requires lots of book/research efforts in each class.

So is it a lot of papers and such? Can you expound on the rigors? Please feel free to PM. How many hours/week is a reasonable expectation for FNP students? I'm applying but quite nervous it will be too much to handle. What's with the research part of these online programs??? My friend attended a brick and mortar NP school and only one major paper at the end.:uhoh3: Please share...if you can find a spare moment! I'm not sure the stress is worth it.

I'd be interested in hearing the ins and outs also. I need to get off my duff and apply somewhere - either here or another school. Just trying to figure out which place will make my life bearable. Already have the nitty gritty on the other school, just need to hear more about OU's program.

rninme...can you tell me which other school? PM if you like. Speaking with the admissions advisor at OU makes it sound so doable for the working class. I'm gathering that is not really the case...

I am looking at Memphis and UAB right now as the program at Ohio did not seem as doable for those of us with lives outside of school. I know people in both of these programs who definitely have lives still and like their programs.

What is UAB? Are these MSN programs or DNP? That's another factor I'm taking into consideration. OU does sound like a bear of a program. I don't mind putting in some effort but I'm not going to put the rest of my life on hold either. Thanks for sharing these schools. I need to expand my search. I definitely want a quality program but does it have to require 40 hrs/week of school work??? That will NOT work for me. If they'd just be up front about the expectations it would help. An advisor at OU actually told me the MSN program would actually be easier than the BSN...I don't think so!

all 3 programs are msn. if the msn was easier than the rn, i would be all over it. i just can't do 40 hours a week of school work. 16 to 25 per week is bad enough.
