OHIO STATE Grad-Entry Summer 2017

Published

Hey! I was hoping to start a thread consisting of summer 2017 applicants to Ohio State's Graduate Entry program. I just finalized my application and submitted last Friday! Well before the deadline in October so I'm hoping that helps. I guess you can say I'm an overly proactive type of person lol. Blessing and a curse. But I've completed all pre-reqs except Microbiology..... which I'm in right now until December. My GPA isn't strong at all :( 3.2. I'll be taking the GRE in September so I'm pretty much dedicating a lot of my time to studying for that...

Anyways, I hope to meet more people who applied/will apply this year for next summer :)

Crunch time starts now!

SUPER NERVOUS, BUT SO EXCITED!!

Oh wow, where did you hear that??

I have a couple of friends in the program that heard

This just made my stomach turn. I'm so nervous, I think I will have aged 10 years by the time we get responses. This is killing me!! ☺

Hi everybody. I happened on this thread and figured I'd chime in. I am a current student in the PMHNP track, having begun this past summer. I received my acceptance notification on February 1 of this year, however I do believe some people heard earlier than I did. If you have any questions, whether about the process moving forward, the program, etc. let me know!

Hi evsilverst! How do you like the program so far?? What is the weekly schedule like? And do you happen to know how many people applied this cycle?? Lol

Hey armymusic. I am enjoying the program a lot so far. There have been some minor hiccups here and there, in large part due to some communication issues between administration and students. From what I understand though (I didn't complete my undergrad at OSU), this is pretty standard university-wide. My suggestion would just be that you always have to be on top of your stuff and you'll be fine (this is a graduate program after all).

The weekly schedule is not all that crazy. These past two semesters our whole cohort was in lectures together on Monday. First semester you have one other day of health assessment lab and then this semester we have either 1 or 2 days of med/surg clinical in the hospital (depending on if you get 6 or 12 hour clinical). This has been nice because this semester does require a good deal of studying. Spring semester is a little different but basically you still have class one day per week and clinical 1 or 2 days. Like I said, it's pretty relaxed in terms of in-person requirements. Plenty of my classmates went away on random trips here and there and have had no conflict whatsoever.

I am not sure of the numbers for your application cycle, however last year there were slightly less than 400 applicants and 90 people were admitted overall (not sure of exact specialty numbers, although I can probably find out).

Please let me know anything else anyone would like to know!

Wow that 90 out of 400 really made my stomach turn

I would say the biggest factor that I've noticed as a common thread between my classmates and I has been life experience. Although there are a few people who came straight from undergrad, the majority of individuals have worked for a few years (or even a few decades) before beginning this program. Additionally, your pre-req grades are definitely big. They need to know that you have a strong grasp on this material because its crucial for you to understand more in-depth topics.

Don't stress yourself out with all of this, you will be fine no matter what. If you don't end up being admitted this year, get some experience, make some contacts, and keep pushing forward. Not everyone takes the same path (hence this program existing). One step at a time.

This is what the college told me in June.

"I can share with you that last year, we had a total of 219 applications to this program and 114 of them were offered admission. "

I would guess that is referring to the cohort before mine. The dean let us know during our orientation that is was 375ish applications this year, 96 in our cohort. You are correct that more were offered admission than accepted though.

What would be the best email to use to contact someone from admissions? I need to ask a question

I would email Tamara Dunaeff, the Graduate Program Manager... her email is [email protected]
