Marquette University Direct 2017
Hey randomizedrad! Do you know of anyone else besides you and I so far that will be a part of the incoming May cohort? I'll probably be completing all of the background check/vaccination paperwork this week. I wish the admissions office or advisors would share more information with us considering it's almost March. (Scrub orders/class schedules etc) I also wonder if there's another thread because there's not much going on here :/ anyways, looks like I'm going to move up to Milwaukee during the 1st week of May to get settled in. I wish we could PM on this darn thing

Tweetto, yes I filed back in October, I think the first week it became available for us to file for this year. It is interesting that we file our 2015 info. New and improved FAFSA I guess.

Yea I'm pretty bothered by it as well.. it's actually kind of odd. When you called did they tell you what the process was like in detail getting into the FNP track? I understand we apply for it our last semester but what are the admitting criteria?? If we're in good standing throughout our 18 months does this mean we're right in there? Do we have to show proof of our GRE again? Previous transcripts from other schools? It would be extremely tiresome to go through an entire separate process to get into FNP that was similar to applying for this program we've gotten in now. You know? On the website it says we are awarded our MSN after 18 months contingent on passing the NCLEX... but then I also read on previous threads that they don't award you the MSN after 18 months, just RN... and you would have to successfully complete your chosen specialty which for FNP would take a while... because we would first have to apply to the Older-Adult Primary Care NP program... fulltime is 4 semesters long but most complete in 2 years... then after completing that program we can apply for our FNP certificate which is an additional year.... the format is very different than other programs such as Vanderbilt, Boston College, MGH institute, etc where you are awarded your MSN in your specialty upon 2-3 years. And that's it.

Tweetto, I've been looking at some of the lofts as well. Hopefully I get approved for the Grad Plus. I wonder when we can start applying for it?? Which brings to another question. Do you have any idea when Marquette will give us our financial aid package? And indeed, 20k is basically nothing compared to the costs of grad school. randomizedrad, It's so good to hear that there's other moms out there! Great to know :) I'll have to google this Nurse Corps Scholarship. & when do you guys plan to move? April? May?

Hey, for those of you who got accepted, how do you plan on affording the program. I'm trying to figure out a plan myself. The entire program itself is 50k. Each summer semester is about $8,500 in tuition and each Fall and Spring semester are $12,500 approx. The cost of living is close to $17k (I received all this info from financial aid yesterday by the way) as graduate students, assuming we've never done Masters course work before, have $20,500 per academic year available to us via federal unsubsidized loans. Our initial summer semester is considered a trailer semester since we didn't take out grad loans for the spring or fall prior this means we will be eligible to take out the entire $20,500 and apply it to our summer tuition and COA. Which is good.... But then the problem I'm realizing is during the new academic year starting this fall, we will get a new $20,500 but have to stretch that over the Fall, Spring, and next summer. So basically in my case I will have used up the loan money about mid way through the program having had to apply it to tuition and cost of living/attendance etc. This is where students typically take out private/alternative loans or the Grad Plus loan. Just curious if anyone is thinking about applying for this loan to help cover their tuition and additional costs that come with living in Milwaukee. I personally don't have the best credit and do not have a consigner... I'll apply and pray about it, but I'm very scared about not getting approved... I hope their are other opportunities to help pay for tuition Also, where is everybody looking to live? On campus/off campus? I'm looking everywhere but very unfamiliar with Milwaukee so i feel like I'm going in this blindly. I'll be moving there with my daughter so looking for 2 bedroom at least. Whewwwwww lots to do! May is right about the corner guys :)

Tweetto, I spoke with Karen Nest about whether we would receive something in the mail about our acceptance. She responded and said, "There will be a large email loaded with information about the program and what you will need to do." She also mentioned that it might take a while to receive that email simply because the application process isn't over yet so I'm assuming we'll get it in a month or so. :)

I'm trying to gain some insight on the format/route of the program. I'm hoping someone here can provide some clarity. 1.) Is the full GEM program 18 months and then we're awarded with our MSN? 2.) At what point are we able to take the NCLEX? 3.) At what point during the program can we apply to a post-masters certificate advanced specialty? 3.) Following 18 months how long before we can start an advanced specialty (I'm going for FNP) -Do they require a year of experience prior to NP study?

OHIO STATE Grad-Entry Summer 2017
Actually, that's a lot what it felt like.... had very little to do with why you are qualified to become an NP and more so a test to see how you do under the pressure of having to answer peripheral questions.

OHIO STATE Grad-Entry Summer 2017
It took about 5 minutes. Honestly, not enough time in my opinion to have the opportunity to effectively represent yourself. ONLY 4 questions. 1minute to answer the first Q. 2 minutes to answer the 2nd. And a minute and 30 seconds the answer the last 2

OHIO STATE Grad-Entry Summer 2017
I just got done with my interview. Nerve racking to say the least guys be aware that you will only have 5 seconds to answer between reading the question and responding. This is what tripped me up. I definitely could've done better. I hope this isn't considered a make or break component of our application. Other than that, your typical nursing school interview questions. 1.) Sit up straight and maintain eye contact with the webcam (I forgot to do this due to nerves) 2.) Give yourself at least a minute to breathe or get a sip of water before proceeding to the next question. 3.) ONLY 5 SECONDS GIVEN BETWEEN READING THE QUESTION AND FORMULATING YOUR RESPONSE. Be mindful of the time you have. (I had a couple pauses at the beginning of 3 of my questions and I'm sure it made me look super goofy) GOODLUCK & PRAYING FOR EVERYONE TO DO WELL !!!! :)

OHIO STATE Grad-Entry Summer 2017
Hey! I was hoping to start a thread consisting of summer 2017 applicants to Ohio State's Graduate Entry program. I just finalized my application and submitted last Friday! Well before the deadline in October so I'm hoping that helps. I guess you can say I'm an overly proactive type of person lol. Blessing and a curse. But I've completed all pre-reqs except Microbiology..... which I'm in right now until December. My GPA isn't strong at all 3.2. I'll be taking the GRE in September so I'm pretty much dedicating a lot of my time to studying for that... Anyways, I hope to meet more people who applied/will apply this year for next summer :) Crunch time starts now! SUPER NERVOUS, BUT SO EXCITED!!
