OHIO STATE -FNP traditional masters 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

I thought I would start a thread for everyone that is applying to the FNP traditional masters program for 2017! I have heard from many that the wait is anxious and long. I also just talked to a lady at the graduate college of nursing and she stated that this year everyone will be receiving an interview as it will be part of now the general application process. I was told by my friends that got admitted last year that getting an offer to interview was stating that you were competitive enough, but it seems this year it is now standard. I am super anxious! I applied to the online FNP, does anyone have any idea how many students they admit for the online program? My GPA is at 3.1, I have four years of RN experience, and I feel strongly about my letter of intent and my recommendations. The lady I spoke to today said that they have let in some with a GPA as low as mine but she also said it was their statement and recommendations that pulled them through. I'm hoping I get pulled through!! But I honestly have doubts. What does everyone else's credentials look like? What have you heard about the admission process this year? I would love to hear from other candidates, and wish everyone the best of luck!! Hopefully a good start to a new year for all of us!

I did my interview today too! I was not impressed one of them was wearing a tshirt and the man had his feet up on the table!!! Haha.

Im sure you did great!! Nothing about OSU yet! So much waiting.

I literally check my email multiple times a day to see if I have anything from OSU! The anticipation is killing me!

I can't respond in PMs for some reason. I received an acceptance email at OU tonight. I really want OSU though!! Good luck!!

I got into OU as well!! Yes I'm right there with you, still waiting from OSU.. fingers crossed! What are your thoughts on the OU program? I did my bachelors online at OU and actually enjoyed it! But I also am use to online. We're you FNP as well, did you apply for the online? Congrats!! Hopefully we hear From OSU soon! Do you know how long we have to be able to hold out on deciding for OU?

I'll have to read it closer but it honestly sounds like you aren't committed until it's time to register. I hadn't heard any of this until recently, but I haven't heard great things about the OU program. Mostly problems finding preceptors and things, but I'm guessing that has a lot to do with how assertive someone is. The OSU program seems much more put together, and supportive of their students!!

Congrats to you guys!!

Any day now OSU!! I'm definitely holding out for there decision.. how long it takes is crazy though! I'm dyingggg!

Thank you for posting this kkadd22. I also applied for the 2017 FNP program. I feel you! I am also super nervous. I was disappointed to read that EVERYONE got an interview :( . I can share that there were 64 applicants for the 50 spots between the MSN-FNP and the BSN to DNP. I got this info from a good source but dont think I should list who as I wouldn't want to jeopardize their position. Anyway, my cumulative is a 3.8, my BSN is a 3.92, science is a 3.90 as I was also a biology major and some programs calculate sciences independently, coming up on 5 years as a nurse, varied experience med/surg ortho/neuro, ED, acute psych and IP psych, I get around :) . SO NERVOUS! I also applied to Otterbein and OU as backups. Good luck. Ill update if I hear anything. I guess we will all know by May 1st!

Totally agree! how can one make an insightful decision about "who" you are with 4min of recorded video. palm on face! Im surprised OSU is utilizing this form of interviewing, Im not sure how well a human connection can be made with my webcam. BTW I really did not like the interview process, Im definitely a meet and greet person.

Did you hear anything from the other other schools you applied to?! I got into OU FNP, also as my back up. I heard a rumor on my unit from the other girls that applied that someone heard a date of April 1st for first round of decisions for OSU...I guess we will see! My coworker that got in last year heard around April 15ish. Best of luck to you! I hope we all get in somewhere!!

Did anybody else get accepted to different programs and are having a hard time deciding while we wait for Ohio State to release their decisions? I was accepted at Otterbein-they start in May with orientation April 7. I was also accepted to Vanderbilt's direct entry FNP program. I feel like all three programs I applied to are totally different and I'm getting overwhelmed with making a decision. Anyone else in the same boat? Also, does anybody know if we are allowed to change from part-time to full-time at OSU? Just curious if it would be worth calling and asking or just waiting until decisions are released. Thanks for this thread! It's nice to hear other people's questions and concerns.
