YOU MIGHT BE FROM OHIO IF......

You've had to switch from AC to heat, in the same day.

You end your sentences with unnecessary prepositions, such as:

"Where's my coat at?"

You install security lights on you home and garage, but leave them unlocked.

You think the 4 food groups are, beef, pork, beer and Jell-O salad.

You know what "pop" is.

You have designed you kids Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.

Your idea of sexy lingerie is tube socks and a flannel nightgown.

The local newspaper covers headline news in two pages, but uses 6 pages for sports.

You think all pro football teams are supposed to wear orange.

You know Ohio's 4 seasons: Winter, Still Winter, Almost Winter & Construction.

You know what a Buckeye is, and have a recipe for candy ones too.

Your sense of direction, "toward the Lake" is the same as North, and "toward the river" is South.

You can tell if someone is from northern or southern Ohio as soon as they open their mouth.

You can spell words like: olentangy, cuyahoga, tuscarawas and wapakoneta.

"Vacation" to you means Cedar Point if it's summer, and deer hunting in the fall.

You measure distance in minutes.

Your school was closed due to cold.

Your school was closed due to heat.

And finally, you might be from ohio if:

you pronounce it "oh-hi-ya" and not "oh-hi-o"

Yeah, I went to Georgia for 4 months (work related). I asked my neighor if she would like a pop, and she looked at me like I was crazy!!! I realized then that most Georgians use the term Soda instead!!

Those are funny and I'm a Californian. :)

The first few apply to us as well . . . I've started a fire in the woodstove only to turn on the AC in the afternoon in Spring and Fall.

Halloween is usually cold and snowsuits are worn under costumes.

I say "soda pop".

Sexy lingerie IS tube socks and a flannel nightgown - plus I sleep on flannel sheets and have an electric blanket.

I live in the northeast corner of CA though . . where there are no palm trees, no movie stars (oh wait, Clint Eastwood owns a ranch nearby and I have seen him in the grocery store), and it snows in the winter.

The pop one, I think is funny because of so many different things people use.

My cousin from Western Pa, also called it soda.

My daughter went to a NASCAR race in the south, went into a McD's and asked for a Coke.

The girl behind the counter teased her terribly, practically calling out the gang from the back, because she ordered a "Coke".

There, Coke is the word for any soda pop I guess.

You order a Coke there, but have to follow it with Dr Pepper, or Cherry Coke or whatever.

Great list!

My dad is from Ohio and we have lots of relatives there. When we would go visit in the summer as kids (I'm from TN) all my cousins would hang around us and make us talk. But they were the ones that "talked funny!" ;)

In my neck of the woods we call them soft drinks, not sodas.

I'm from southern Ohio. I live about 60 miles from Cincy. I have several friends out of state that enjoy listening to me talk. Some of their favorite words of mine include: Dog, phone, home, toe, comb, creek/crick. They ask me to say them just to hear me say them. Supposedly we southern ohioans say DAWG instead of dog.

I took this to work, and had to explain it to a few people. I guess they've never heard anyone from Cleveland? :chuckle:

These are so true!! Another one I hear where I live is people say warsh and Warshington instead of wash and washington.

Also, you know you are in Ohio, if you go to bed and the temp. is 60 and wake up to an inch of snow on the ground. That actually happened this week too!! The begining of the week was so nice and warm, now it is cold and we have 4 inches of snow!!

I am also from Ohio (Cincinnati) I moved to Kentucky about 15 years ago with my mothers side of the family. When we go to visit our dad they want to hear us talk, and we get made fun of by everyone.

We call my dad "Pop"

People from Ohio always say "you guys" instead of "hey yall". Every once in a while I'll say you guys and my husband just starts laughing.

I moved to Ohio 8 years ago. And I enjoy throwing people off by saying, " Would you like a soda?" or, a beautifully confusing term in Cincinnati is saying "please?" (when you really mean, 'excuse me, I didn't understand you') and I love to say, "Thank you!" And chili and spagetti together is still gross.
