Help!... OSUMC RN Internship/Residency Graduates

Are there any OSUMC RN Internship/Residency Graduates out there?

I've been offered an interview for their program and am looking for any hints/tips you may have. It's a panel interview and the program is extremely competitive...so any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Big Big Congratulations on the Ross gig! It is a beautiful hospital and a great population to work with. I work at OSUMC now as an SNA, mostly in the main house and whenever I float over to Ross I always thing, oooo, it's nice here.

I interviewed for the James track in mid December, and am waiting anxiously to hear. Those folks over at Ross are a super efficient bunch! Do you have any idea how many other people will be in your cohort? I'm sure you'll have a fantastic experience and hurray for you!

Thank you! I officially accepted the offer today : ) I was told at the interview that, for the Ross track, they were interviewing 20 and hiring 10. I was told (back in Feb) by the associate director of the Internship program that, in total, ~50 would be chosen.

It's great that you've had the experience of being a SNA at OSUMC...I'm sure that experience (especially since it's at their hospital) gives you an edge.

I'd love your help! I lived in Worthington but it's been over 10 yrs ago--I'm moving from Dayton.

I'm looking for a townhome (renting) in a decent area (preferably suburbs but not too far from OSU).

Any suggestions?

I've also noticed a few cute apts in Old Towne East (I know this isn't in the burbs)--Do you know anything about this part of Columbus?

You should be fine there. When you head East, you just want to make sure you don't get too close to the Whitehall area. That is the shady part of Columbus where a vast majority of the crime occurs.

I currently live downtown in the arena district. I absolutely LOVE it , but it is pricey because of location. I pay $700 a month for a studio apartment, but they are only 5 years old, most residents are at a similar point in life, and you really can't beat the location. It is also only about 2 miles to OSU. You could easily get to your parking spot at OSU in 5 minutes. Here is the link to my apartment complex: http://www.arenacrossing.com. Their owned by http://www.villagegreen.com. They have apartments all over the Columbus area including Easton and Westerville - both of which are also super nice.

The nicest suburbs to live in are Dublin, Worthington, and Westerville. They are obviously more of a hike to work, but very nice areas. Anywhere over by Easton or Polaris is really nice too.

Just be sure to avoid the Whitehall/Reynoldsburg type area :)

Columbus seems like a very nice city so I'm still trying to learn as much about it before I sign a lease somewhere. Just curious if anyone else on here is also starting on Feb 15th at OSUMC in their new grad program.

Hi Scott,

Congratulations! I've been accepted into the Cardiac (Ross Heart Hospital) Internship track and will be starting on Feb 15, too:) I wanted to find a place and move by Feb but it looks like that's not going to happen. However, unlike you, I only live a little over an hour away, so commuting for a few wks won't be a big deal for me.

Columbus is such a nice city...I love it. There are so many places to live. Not sure if you're a city guy or a 'burban guy...but there's a lot to choose from--it just depends on where you'd prefer to live. Upper Arlington, Worthington, Dublin, and Bexley are all nice suburbs.

I've lived in the burbs all of my life and so I'm hoping to find a place in the city. If you need any help, just let me know.

Thanks WSUCHIC. I think I'm looking for a place with a little greenery and space. I've lived right in the city for some time now and my dog is telling me she needs more room to play. I check into your recommendations and I look forward to meeting you in person soon : )

For those of you who applied to the OSU internship programs and got a job...do you have ADN degrees or BSN degrees? Do you know if your newly hired coworkers have ADNs or BSNs? I'm concerned about graduating from a 2 year school and not being able to find a job at a good hospital in Columbus when I graduate. Thanks!

Me too. I will have an ADN when I graduate and am worried about landing a great job, especially in a specialty area. However, I do have a BA as well, sondo you think that will help me land a job that typically goes to BSN grads only? The bachelors degree is on psychology and I have done substantial heath care related research...

Hi Lou,

I just began OSU's Internship program a week ago and I have a BSN. Don't worry, their Internship/Residency Program is open to BSNs and ADNs. There seems to be a decent amount of both degrees in the program.

I also have a BA in Psychology but I don't think that helped me get the job. I think what helped me secure a spot in the program was all of the healthcare-related activities I did that were associated with my Psych degree along with all of the Cardiac conferences and other little extras I did that were all associated with my BSN/unit I wanted to pursue after graduating.

OSU also places alot of importance on the panel interview.

Thanks, that is reassuring to hear. Like you, I already have experience as a PCA and have a previous bachelor's degree in another field. Plus my instructor at CSCC is helping me get a job at OSU now as a PCA so I hope that will earn me some brownie points when I graduate and apply for a nursing job there. It just seems like such a great place to work...such varied patient cases, learning opportunities, excellent pay and benefits...I can't wait until I get to the point that you are now! Thanks again for the info!
