OH, My Aching Feet...

I have had plantar fasciitis for about 20 years in my right foot. The only thing that helps bring a measurable amount of relief is wearing high heels; obviously, I can't wear those with my scrubs.

I have tried those shape-up type shoes and they're okay as long as I'm not standing for more than a couple of minutes.

I'm looking for shoes that will accommodate my big, wide feet, and fallen arches. Something that I can stand in for long periods of time, too.

Thanks.

I wore Sketcher's Shape-Up for a while. I "broke them in" as instructed. Within two months my back froze up and I was in bed for 2 weeks. I know it was the shoes because they changed my gait and screwed with my hips and back...I paid $100+ for them and then gladly threw them away!

Mine too! My residents walk better than I do.

I used to have foot pain so I changed shoes to Skechers. My feet never hurt! I use the regular and the shape-ups, and both are great. They are wider than other shoes, but the sizes run smaller. I normally wear an 8, but have to go up to an 8.5 in Skechers. Good Luck.

I'd suggest that you get a pair of Vibram 5-fingers or other similar type of footwear and then begin a regular program of walking and very light running. I predict that you will see a dramatic improvement in your foot strength, arches, and plantar fasciaitis.

Everyone's foot issues are so different. That's why foot pain is so frustrating (and explensive by the time you try everyone's shoe recommendations). Sketchers just about killed my feet.

I already do barefoot running on my treadmill, but not outdoors. I have considered getting a Vibram 5's for outdoor running, but I'm concerned about toe rubbing or seams rubbing in between my toes--is that an issue with these shoes?

Not that I've experienced or heard of. They fit really tightly... like a glove.

Because a treadmill is (a) so flat and (b) somewhat padded (at least the ones I've been on), I don't think it really has the same benefit as BFing it outside. JMO.

You're definitely right about that. I walk barefoot during the summer months--much different feel than my treadmill.

I'm going this week to get fitted for some new shoes, so I will check out the V5's.

Thanks.

I love, love, love my Vibram FiveFinger shoes! I have the Bikila's and they've changed my life; my feet have never felt so strong! :)

I haven't experienced any toe rubbing.
