ODS Questions

Published

So I'm currently sitting here about to start week 3 of ODS in Rhode Island. I just wanted to start a thread for anyone who has questions to go on and start posting them. I'll check back here whenever I can and answer what I can. I can also give an overall thoughts and whatnot after I finish April 8th. So without further ado...fire away!

bigdaddyccrn, check out my posts under military nursing questions answered. We have discussed many of your questions already. Good luck.

They expect you will go directly from ODS to your first duty station. It is strongly recommended to have you HHG packed and shipped prior to school. Many in our class didn't have it done prior to. It's not impossible to do later, just one more thing to stress over when you report!

Now when you say "they expect you will go directly from ODS to [my] first duty station," are we talking the next day after graduation or do I have a few days to get things in order?

Directly there as in leaving graduation day and using that as a travel day. You need to be in touch with your command sponsor to run any other plans by them. If your command has different ideas on this, they will let you know. Some are a little more relaxed than others!

newnavynurse,

You suggested getting a sponsor at my first duty station. How do I go about getting this sponsor?

Do you have orders yet?

Once you have your orders there is a spot in them about your new command. A number to contact to get a sponsor.

Have they told you where you are going yet?

I am "tentatively" going to NH Pensacola.

I know a guy that just got there, if when you get your orders you don't have a sponsor number listed let me know and I can contact him for you.

Just an FYI, most commands won't assign someone who is relatively new to be a sponsor. They wouldn't be much help if they've only been there a few months.

And the Navy is amping up their Facebook page with Nurse Corps information. I just read it and there's some pretty good information especially in the notes pages.
