Hello!
I am an oncology nurse looking to get my OCN soon.
Should bother going through the "Cancer basics" course or Chemo/bio therapy certs?
Would either help me prepare for the OCN or are they both included in the OCN? I hate to waste the money on them if I should just jump right into the OCN certification.
I have been in oncology 3 years.
Thanks!

I don't have any info for you, but there are those here with this particular certification so they should weigh in, too. Good luck!!

Cancer basic was way too basic. Best thing knowing was different interventions for different extravastions. Cancer basic would be ideal for someone that wants to get into oncology and that isnt a new grad.
Biotherapy and chemo is an interesting class for sure, seems a lot of employers are looking at it.

I just took my OCN exam in July and passed! Yay! I went to an all day review class a few weeks before and that helped me a lot. Then I studied the free material and videos on noep.org which re-inforce that material. I also purchased the Oncology Nursing Core Curriculum Study Guide and a yellow workbook called OCN Secrets which had a great practice test with answer rationales. Good luck!
Awesome I think I have both of those books already!
Thank you!

I'm scheduled to take the test soon and a little nervous...
Anyone have any idea how long it takes to find out if I passed? (or not...gulp)

When I did wrote OCN exam, it was very helpful to have gone through the chemo/biotherapy program. Cancer basics was too simple, but it's a good place to start for beginners.
@bonnie- You find out immediately. Once the test completes, there are a few evaluation questions, then you get your results.

I just took my OCN exam in November and passed. I read
Oncology Nursing Core Curriculum Study Guide (green book) front to cover and did the study guide questions along with each chapter and a yellow workbook called OCN Secrets which had a great practice test with answer rationales. Everything that is on the Exam is in the Oncology Nursing core curriculum study guidebook. I also have been in oncology for 3 years, I have a few coworkers who tried to take the exam with their everyday working oncology knowledge and unfortunately were unsuccessful. If you read the study guide and do the test questions you will do fine! Good Luck.

I am looking to test this spring too! Good luck! The online review course is being revamped according to the new book being released in March. I am planning on waiting until then to test. I wish there was in person review closer to home but the closest is 6 hours away, and with a new baby it just isn't doable.
