OCCC Spring 2010 hopefulls!

U.S.A. Oklahoma

I just turned in my 2010 application to OCCC's nursing program and wanted to see who all out there are going to be playing the waiting game with me for the next 2ish months!

Just wondering for the students who were accepted into the spring 2010 semester, was this your first semester applying?

I went to nursing school at a four year back in 2004 and got two C-'s and was suspended from the program because of those grades. The school gave me a year to "shape up" and to prove to them I was ready to be a nursing student. However my grades were mediocre and was denied re-entrance into the program. I was devastated but realize now why they did not let me back in.

Then a couple of years ago, I moved here and started going to Rose State this year and have gotten A's in all my classes. I realize I wasn't ready to be a nursing student. I was working 30+ hours a week and now I'm not working. However, I am now 100% focused. The problem is, my GPA is a 3.0 right now. All my current grades are A's but I have A LOT of B's and C's from 4-5 years ago. I will graduate in May with an A.A. in Social Work and hope to apply to the OCCC nursing program for the fall of 2010 or Spring of 2011. Do you think the school will look beyond my old not so good grades and focus more on my current good grades? I am going to contact them, but wanted to see what you all thought first based on your own experiences! Thanks soo much in advance.

I have a question for those of you who were accepted for the Spring or have been in the past semesters. Since the classes are at night, are the clinicals during the days or when do you do them? Is everything at night and on the weekends or is there anything during the day M-F?

Amazing post! Thank you!

Tygereyespeters,

Thank you so much for a look into nursing school from a recent grad. And congratulations!!

It's really sweet of you to take time to help us know what to expect and show support. We know it's going to be terrible and great but we don't really know what that means. You do, and that makes your message to us very special.

Best luck and be nice to us when we come to your work for Clinicals, LOL!

EAB12191,

Look at you! You are more mature now and you understand what it takes for you (personally) to be a great student. From my experience, you're the only one that can hold you back. Hmm... you say. If you want something then you start knocking on doors and not taking no for an answer. With a competitive program, you figure out how to get a couple of extra pref. points.

Don't just look at OCCC either.

You can do it. You may have to do it the long way but that's ok. Keep us posted!

Thanks for the words of encouragement! :) I will for sure make sure the preference points go up. I never even took the ACT since it was not a requirement in the northeastern U.S. Again, thank you!

You can get those same points from taking the Compass test in the testing center. (I think it's still Compass).

Did you ever get one of those printed papers from the advisor (nursing) that specifcally spells out what you need to do and when? I followed that but .. not the "when" part. I did things my own way and it worked for me. That might be worth your time.

What's going to make them give you another chance is your passion and determination. Make sure they understand how important this is to you. You've already done some of that on paper via your transcript. Take that with you if you go talk to her.

When someone tries to shut a door, find another way in. Be creative. :)

Are you guys getting excited or what?? I AM :yeah:

Tigereyespeters,

Did you do the BADNAP or the traditional track? I'm applying for the BADNAP and wondering how it will be?

Hey Tiger,

I applied to the BADNAP too. Do you know when we will know about acceptance?
