    OCCC Fall 2010 alternates

I was NP1 last semester. There were several of us that re-applied "just in case"...a car wreck, we got sick, we failed, lol. Anyway, I think this was a new thing for them to have so many do this. So...what I'm saying is don't get discouraged by a wait list. One of my friends got called the day classes started.

You can get those same points from taking the Compass test in the testing center. (I think it's still Compass). Did you ever get one of those printed papers from the advisor (nursing) that specifcally spells out what you need to do and when? I followed that but .. not the "when" part. I did things my own way and it worked for me. That might be worth your time. What's going to make them give you another chance is your passion and determination. Make sure they understand how important this is to you. You've already done some of that on paper via your transcript. Take that with you if you go talk to her. When someone tries to shut a door, find another way in. Be creative. :)

EAB12191, Look at you! You are more mature now and you understand what it takes for you (personally) to be a great student. From my experience, you're the only one that can hold you back. Hmm... you say. If you want something then you start knocking on doors and not taking no for an answer. With a competitive program, you figure out how to get a couple of extra pref. points. Don't just look at OCCC either. You can do it. You may have to do it the long way but that's ok. Keep us posted!

Tygereyespeters, Thank you so much for a look into nursing school from a recent grad. And congratulations!! It's really sweet of you to take time to help us know what to expect and show support. We know it's going to be terrible and great but we don't really know what that means. You do, and that makes your message to us very special. Best luck and be nice to us when we come to your work for Clinicals, LOL!

    OCCC Spring 2010 Alternates

I dunno how many... guess it depends on how many don't meet the requirements or have decided to go to a different school. If you have a low number on the alt list I'd be ready to jump in at a moments notice. Hope you make it! Keep us posted.

Jamie, Doing good! So much to do. I still need to find somewhere for my shots... and get the CPR done. I had class today so couldn't. Are you taking classes at OCCC now? PM if you'd like to meet up :) I met OKinOKC (Mindy) this week. Even if you have north clinicals and I have south it will be great to have friends in the program. We'll need each other. Where has Babymademeeatit been?

Have y'all started turning stuff in yet? I feel like I have not had a break in forever... there is so much to do. I did start getting shots at the end of summer so only one more set to go first part of Feb. My titers I did at my family doc's office. But they sent me to the health dept. for my Hep.'s and I had to re-do MMR series. TB done. I got my background check Friday and ordered the second one online. CPR class 11/21 at MNTC. It's all day but it's really the only time I can do it. I could go to the OCCC one 12/2 but that's cutting it too close. Anyone start buying stuff yet? What kind of stethoscope are you getting/wanting? We should meet up for lunch or a coke/coffee on a Friday sometime before 12/4. It might be fun to have a few friends going in. You all might already have friends, but I got in a semester earlier than most of my study partners

    Accepted at OCCC!

If you look under the region tab, there is an OCCC Hopefuls thread and a few more of our classmates. It might be fun for us to get together and have coffee one night before the orientation. I go to Wholly Grounds sometimes to study.

I still need to get my CPR too but I want to wait until Dec. I have one fast-track class that is taking up my Fri-Sat's. It will be done around Thanksgiving. Thanks for the info Jamie2btru! This week? I don't know if I want to get myself all excited again....but I probably can't help it. Good luck! Afineparadigm, I know one person that didn't pass her NCLEX the first time but it was several years ago. She repeated 4th semester and passed the second time. I don't know anyone that's in the traditional program at all. Most of my friends haven't applied yet either... they will/should start in the fall. I think Micro would be a good summer class. It's not easy but not horrible either. AP II is harder for me than AP I was. Chemistry was tough... my only B. You need it though. I use it every single day now. Can you try chemistry and AP II next semester w/o anything else? That way you'd have all your tough classes finished when you start nursing.
