OCCC and Rose Students/grads

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

It looks like, in my quest for nursing school, OCCC and Rose are the most likely places I will end up going to (or should I say, least likely to reject me). If there are any OCCC or Rose students or grads that could tell me about their own experience going to these schools, what your schedule, teachers, overall experience was like, I would really appreciate it

Thank you in advance for your help

Sergio

I'm not a student yet, but I have been checking out OCCC too.

It seems like a pretty good program and the staff seems friendly so far.

It's competitive to get into OCCC. They usually have about 200 applicants per semester but they only take 72 (for the traditional program). They work on a system of 24 preference points and for the last 2 semesters the cut off has been 17 points.

I hope that helps a little. Good luck!

I graduated from OCCC in 1993. I absolutely loved their nursing program. All the staff was tremendously helpful. Actually, my whole experience at the school was wonderful. I used the labs that they provide for assistance with math and other basic classes, since I had been out of High School for a while before attending college.

I am a current student at OCCC in Nursing Process 1...I was accepted with I think 16 or 17 preference points and a 3.46 GPA but I was tenth alternate...there were a lot of people to get in after me as well. If you don't get right away don't let it get you down! The staff is great! The only complaint I have is things seem a little backward...we learned sterile technique right off the bat before we learned how to do basic vitals...also the test questions are a little vauge....aside from a few kinks I'm enjoying the class as well as the instructors!

I'm at OSU OKC. I love it there. You should check it out!

FYI I got in with 80pts and a 3.29 GPA....scored 80% on HESI entrance exam

I'm at UCO and love it! Check us out too :)

Thank you for all the info. tou are very kind. Right now I am waiting from OCCC BA to AD and from Rose, If for some reason it doesn't pan out, I will apply at OSU-OKC for the spring term.

What are these preference points?:balloons:

OCCC is very competitive and uses preference points for determining who gets a spot.

You get points for your GPA, for bio-science classes, for having passed the NET test, your SAT scores, and for taking additional classes that will help you succeed, etc.

I am a NP2 student right now in the traditional program and I have to say that I love it. It's the hardest thing I've ever done but also the best. The faculty is wonderful. They care, they have high expectations, and they are available.

They have also changed the program a lot starting last semester for NP1 students. So, we didn't have the problem with learning sterile before VS or anything like that.

I am taking basics, at osu-okc i would like to get in in fall but i don't know if i will have enough points. I will take hesi in march, any advice on what to study most, anyone has already taken it how was it?

To update, I myself applied for the spring of 09 with 16 pts. and a 3.15 gpa. I am #3 on the alternate list. I hope they call me soon!
